Hi all, new to the list so I apologize if this topic has been hashed over many times. I tried doing a search but it was taking way too long. Where's the fuel filter located on a '01 4wd. I assume it's in the tank like my Ram, but was hoping? Thanx all, Jim

Aloha navyshooter,

Welcome to the list. Yes, unfortunately, the fuel filter is located in the tank.

Aloha yourself. I figured as much but was hoping against hope. When I changed it out on my V-10 Ram, I found it was easier to remove the bed than drop the tank. Not exactly an option here. Thanx for the quick help. Gotta love these forums. I'm on the DieselRam.com forum also, amazing how good the info can be!

You having a problem with the D or just doing some PM? I don't think I've ever heard of a problem with a fuel filter on this site. They're nowhere near as bad as they were with carbs.

Yeah, lots of sputtering, feels like fuel starvation under load. Even a little at constant speed. Had a similar issue on my 98 V-10 and had to change the fuel pump too (all one unit.)

You could try a commercial grade injector cleaner. Or you might have a problem with one of the injectors leaking or not firing properly. These are sealed units (replaceable only.) If injectors are bad go to www.fiveomotorsport.com for a real good price and selection. That's where I got mine and they're very cheap. They even used to offer balanced sets guaranteed to meet the pressure specs for those that are into racing and exact control.

Pumps and filters have been real good on the D's. A pressure regulator could be in the mix.

Check pressure to the rail and test the injectors.

You haven't mentioned how long since the last tune-up. It might be time for plugs/cap/rotor/wires.
