Hey guys,

I'm thinking about picking up an FSM off eBay just for general mechanical help all around the truck (suspension, tranny, engine, etc.) I've noticed that there's the "Service manual" (telephone book size, usually around $85), and then there are the individal diagnostic manuals (e.g. chassis, transmission, etc.) Is the service manual pretty all-encompassing, or is it insufficient without the diagnostic set?

Thanks,

-Harrison

The basic shop manual shows all the elementary routines and electrical diagrams. Different years have different manuals/ editions. It's good to get the powertrain diagnostics if you want to diagnose check engine lights. 1998 has a separate thin book I bought for the ABS because I had a problem, and the book paid off bigtime. There's one place where you can buy right from Chrysler.

I'd refrain from buying on eBay, since you probally won't get a real bargain, you might not get the right stuff the first time, and you'll find out what's available for your year.
