Hey all...

I am looking at the R/T (with possibly with TnG) and have a quick question.

I know from my Camaro, once the AFM kicks in on a modified exhaust system, my car sounded like A$$.. I resolved that by tuning the AFM out.

For those that upgraded your exhaust, have you done the same for your rides, tuned on the MDS?

You can just turn MDS off permanently, on my 2020 you start the vehicle the first time and hit the ECO button so that light is turned on under the ECO button. Yes I know counter intuitive but when the ECO light is on it means the MDS is disabled. Once you do this the first time every time you start the vehicle the ECO will be turned off by default, as mentioned the ECO light will be on every time you start up which means MDS is disabled. That way no issue with the drone from using aftermarket exhaust with an MDS motor.
On the flip side we have good aftermarket manufacturers that have designed their aftermarket exhausts to tune out the drone from The MDS if you choose to use ECO mode, manufacturers like Corsa and even Mopar Performance have been tuned to no drone with MDS.
Hope this helps.

My Camaro had these little butterfly spring gates that opened/closed when the car was running AFM so that the "farting" sound was non-existent... still.. I had to get a tune to get rid of that when I upgraded my system.

I see that the Mopar Performance has these blue attachments to the exhaust which I'm guessing does the same thing... however, if I want to open up the exhaust to get a louder, meaner system, I'll probably run into the same scenario and the R/T will produce that same farting sounds as my Camaro when it drops to 4cylindar... right??

There is the known “Hemi fart”. Is that what you are referring to?

Hemi Fart... so I sorta figured. My 6.2 Camaro was getting 24mpg highway with AFM and now that its tuned out, I'll see 22-24 mpg so really, not a big change. My city MPG was effected a little also... I wonder if the same goes for the hemi? Will there be a big change in the MPG tuning out the Hemi MDS? Otherwise, maybe the V6 might be the way to go????

So after a little more reading I found this in the quick reference manual for my 2020 RT. The manual states when ECO mode is engaged the control system will be able to change the following: on 5.7l HEMI engines 4 cylinder mode will be enabled under certain conditions.
So the question is with ECO mode off will the control system not be able to enable the MDS?
I must admit I have always had mine set to ECO mode off and I can’t say I have noticed the HEMI running on 4 cylinders to date. I guess we will never know.
