Folks, Here's the Official Event Report thread for our in Inaugural Durangoville JNAP Plant Tour and Woodward Dream Cruise 2011 Event

---------

Before we start this thread, I want to take a moment to Sincerely Thank and Congratulate a few folks.

One week ago, I privately suggested to the DOC Board of Directors that we consider putting together a donation for the charity of choice that the Jefferson North UAW folks embrace. I challenged the BOD to reach a $500 level. In the past, the Durango Owners Club as a whole has donated $1000 in 2008 and $1500 in 2009 to the UAWs Toys for Tots Christmas funds by soliciting general donations year round. With only one week to go, and a small group to work with, I was hoping we could get to $500 level.

I'm very proud to announce that without hesitation, and in what's arguably the worst economic times of our lifetimes, we exceeded donations and will be giving a check to the UAW Local President on Friday for $600 in the name of the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

From myself and on behalf of the UAW and Karmanos folks, thank you to the following individuals for each of their $100 donations: skitzo.d, tomk, FSTDANGO3, Big Al and MWeed.

Now back to the Event Report thread?

As everyone is arriving and/or about to set out on our travels to culminate in Detroit, my prayers are for safe travels for each and every one of you. God Speed and see you as a group in about 18 hours.

For all those who are still considering coming to some part of the Durangoville JNAP/Woodward event, Friday we'll leave the hotel at 7:30am sharp. Miss the start time and you can meet us at the Plant by 9AM. We'll lunch somewhere and rejoin for the Museum tour in the early afternoon. Saturday will be all day at the Woodward Dream Cruise. See the thread for the group's parking location.

I'm really looking forward to cruising the Durango's all in a line together for a few miles down the Famous Woodward Ave!

See you soon :!:

P.S. Of course I'll issue another challenge for 2012 (assuming we're asked back  to the tour next year) and hope to reach the $1000 level once again as a whole DOC.

Not the best quality video thanks to operator error, but you should still get the point. That D is hot! Also, check out the poor guy walking on the sidewalk when Heavy D lights 'em up.

Nice Durango HeavyD, how's the build doing?? Last time I saw you, you were trying out some new tunes.

He has that bad boy all dialed in! :cheesy:

As a matter of fact I did; that was my first stop. The trip was convenient and I hit American Jewelery and the Woodward Dream Cruise enroute to the hotel. Perfect layout, 8 Mile and Woodward were right on the way to hotel so no backtracking.

Obviously, you guys were received well by the plant folks. I'm surprised they let you take pics in the plant as they used to not allow that. Wish I could've been there.

We were surprised too!

I'd asked my contact about it the afternoon before and she said it's normally not possible to bring in cameras without a large pile of approvals, but they'd discuss it at Plant Staff meeting that morning before we arrived. And they have my phone number so, if anything gets out that shouldn't have been photographed, they know who to have the lawyers call. For better or worse. :(

Act like adults, get treated like adults.

Tom I hope your ride towards home today was a safe one.
I'd like to thank you personally for all the effort and planning you put into this event for us. Without your dedication and hard work it wouldn't have happened.
Thank You Tom!

I second that! It was well worth all of the effort everyone made to attend and it set the stage for annual visits. It might even result in the sale of a few more Gen 3's!

Thanks much!

I just rolled in and the first thing I wanted to do was thank Tom for all his hard work! :D
Thanks to you it was a fantastic tour and trip. My hat is off to you my friend!

Looking forward to the next time!

Hopefully everyone got home safe to our loved ones.

+4 for Tom's efforts! It should be noted that the person who did most of the setup and coordination for the Durango club tour owns a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I hope all parties who traveled in had a safe trip back and I hope Woodward was a good showing, or at least great cruising. I also hope the Chrysler Museum tour was a great time. I left around 1:00 and got home around 7.00. I did get caught in some local traffic coming out of Detroit, but once out of the city limits I made good time. A quick fuel stop in Toledo and no major traffic problems after that.

That's a great write up. Maybe it'll help bring new members to the group.

I knew you'd all like this.
I worked with Scott last night on it for a little while.

Hm, just checked my GPS as I stopped for Breakfast on the way home and it tells me my max speed for the trip was 94MPH.

I'm pretty sure that didn't happen on the highway. ;)

I think I can remember when it happened! LOL

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Uphill, at the end of the run, no less. :)
Good thing the three of us have been dieting. :p

So it's time to finally check in as well. WHAT A TRIP! 12 hours home to CT. Steve and his buddy led the way most of the time and I'm sure there were a few times when my D hit a little past the legal limit. But it was a good trip and all the opportunities for picture gathering made it more enjoyable.

Thanks to everyone involved in this tour as well as a last minute donation from Heavy D for the charity as well.

This is on my list of DO NOT MISS things to do next year. The welcome we received from the staff at the plant was better than any of the previous tours. The people working the lines cheered and waved as we were driven through the plant. The welcomes being scrolled on the update monitors throughout the plant was a welcome surprise. Having my D driven into the plant for display is something I'll never forget. 3 people from the Delaware plant that transferred up to Detroit got to drive them back to the visitor lot. They never got to drive Durangos like them before. Smiles from ear to ear.

From the Blogs, pictures, articles and questions on whether or not we'd be back next year, I'd say they were almost as happy to have us as we were to be there.

Great Job!

We were well cheered for sure. Having my D inside the plant was beyond reality for me and to see our 3 D's standing there looking as new as ever was great as well!
Traveling the 1250 mile round trip distance was all so worth it and extremely fun thanks to the mini convoy Dwayne and Lydia provided.
There are some great videos on Facebook that, when I get a chance, I'll post here. They were all taken on the way home and having a bit of highway fun made the ride go so fast? Ok we were driving fast as well.
