Well we Icelanders like to break records lol. My wife's brother was the world strongest man for four years Mr. Jón Páll Sigmarsson (John Paul Sigmarsson.) I've been to the states 3 times and was there last time in november 2006 in Virgina Beach at my friends wedding. I just love your country.

Siggi,

Jon Pall was your brother-in-law? Awesome.

V-I-K-I-N-G P-O-W-E-R!!

He was quite the showman and great for Iceland. I do recall seeing him in competition and to this day, I still watch the World's Strongest Man Competitions when they're on TV, the new ones or even the old reruns.

my trip summary?

we left on Thursday from CT. arrived in Gatlinburg on Friday for the lunch meet. we visited Stone Mountain, GA on Wednesday and drove to Va Beach on our way home. we arrived home last night around 4:30. almost 3000 miles and the D ran perfectly. I'll hit 100,000 miles on it soon.

we had a great time down there. looks like we might make it down there again. maybe not next year since we'll be touring the West coast during the summer, but the year after that for sure.

Thanks to everyone who helped get this off the ground.

Too bad I didn't know you guys a few weeks eairler, being a local I can always get some of those insider deals. I have a friend that does booking for over a dozen hotels in the sevierville, pigeon fordge and gatlinburg area. I was at the rod runs wed-sun, only paied $175 for 4 people at the Grand Hotell!

The more I looked at the pics I realized something. Did you guys stay at the Glenstone? I have been going there since I was a VERY young. It's one of those things my family does every year! I hope you liked the place, I know the rooms aren't the most updated, but the pool is awesome! If you guys are interested in seeing more of this area, I can put up some pics of my own!

Fun stuff, I wish I had something to park amongst those fine looking D's. My Mustang would look odd in the mix :wall:, hopefully not too much longer?

I don't have any pics scaned ATM, but here's one of the wonderfully amazing, super fantactic, great american flying deer, taken last spring in cades cove. That thing jumped the fence from nearly 20 feet away from it.

x2. It is such a shame to see all that damage. It is also very close to the in-laws home in Cullowhee, NC.

Thanks for the prayers guys. It is appreciated.
It has been raining steadily here since 11pm last night and that has really helped out with the forest fires that are dwindling as I type this. Gatlinburg and the "Spur", (the road connecting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg) is still closed to the public. Many residences and visitor cabins have been lost, four people are confirmed deceased, with 16-20 hospitalized. 6 were airlifted to the emergency burn unit at Vandy. :( Considering how many visitors stay with us, it is a miracle that more were not hurt. I give a lot of credit to the Sevier County first responders to get literally thousands of people out of the area quickly and safely. Most of Gatlinburg and her hotels/attractions are undamaged, with the main strip largely untouched. That's a good thing and we look forward to hosting visitors again very soon. We are the USA's most visited National Park, and we host millions of visitors annually. (1999 was a record 10.5 million folks) So tell everyone that although this may set us back for a week or two, we will be up and running soon.

We are, of course, the Volunteer State, and help has been pouring in from Tennesseans and former Tennesseans around the world. So we're going to roll up our sleeves and clean up our house a little bit. But y'all come visit soon. We'll have this patched up in a jiffy… Winterfest will continue and Springtime in the Smokies is just magical. :D

I think its only fitting that we consider setting up another Great Event there in the Future

I would vote for that. Great place to visit and lots to see and do. Plus great folks.

I've stayed in Pigeon Forge 2x in the last 3 years....The Great Smoky Mountains is one of my favorite National Parks. I pray for everyone involved that things will get back to normal. Good luck to all down there...hang in there.
