Engine Light On?

Just joined the forum. Having a problem with my Durango and thought this might be just the place to get some answers and or advice.

Engine light on my 2000 Durango 4x4 with a 4.7 engine and 147000 miles.
Checked the fault codes, shows number 305 and 205 misfire detected-cylinder number 5.
Possible Causes:
1. Spark Plugs
2. Coil
3. Vacuum Leak
4. Injector Bad (number 5)
5. High or low pressure regulator
6. Powertrain control module
7. Fuel return line blocked
8. Check TPS and circuit for failure

The first thing that I did was to put in new plugs, that were needed and reset the computer. The Durango ran just great for about 3 days before the light came back on. I reset the computer about 3 more times with the same results. Prior to the light cumming on the Durango runs perfect, It acts like maybe a misfire happens then the light comes on, at that point the truck runs like it's running on 7-clinders. Now I can't see where it could be a bad Injector, because when I reset the computer all is good for another day or two. So before I just start replacing everything on the list which can get costly maybe someone on the forum might have experienced the same problem or others might have some suggestions.

Move a coil from one cylinder to the next door one and see if it problem chases. If so, replace said coil. if not, something is up with the electrical on that cylinder.

Still having the same problem! Moved coil #5 to #7 and reset the computer. Ran great around town, after I shut it off for the second time and restarted the truck it missed slightly and went back to running rough with the engine light on... I know that I can clear the computer and it will run beautiful once again until I restart it after who knows how many times and it misses again.

Hoping that someone on here might have a few other idea's/suggestions to try.

That is correct, still shows as being number 5.... Yesterday just for kicks I cleaned the Throttle body and Idel Air control, then reset the computer. Made a few trips to towns stopping and restarting the engine. The check engine light came on once again after about the 5th start up... Humm running out of idea's ?

Rob, I have a coil on plugs.. When the engine light first comes on the engine runs rough then smooths out after the computer makes a few adjustments. After that I don't notice any difference in the lack of power.... A gold star for anyone that can come up with a answer to this, lol.

One thing to check is to make sure connector wires (2 of them) for the coil is pushed all the way in.

After all of the testing you've done, my guess would be possible break in the injector lead wire or vacuum leak. I'm more inclined toward the vacuum leak, though.

FYI, you can also swap the injectors between cylinders to try to nail it down. I would actually swap with one on the opposite bank for diagnosis purposes

Back to my problem, had to wait for all the rain to finely stop.... I checked and rechecked all the vacuum lines for any leaks/cracks. All the hoses are in good shape.
As for swapping out injectors, I can't convince myself that the problem is there, besides that is a major job and then to do it twice! Yuck.

After checking and pulling hoses i reset the computer 2 different times. Now the engine runs rough right from the get go and seems to have a constant miss.
Anyone have any other suggestions? I hate to admit defeat, but I might just have to run it into the shop.

This is a tow car that I pull behind my custom bus, so I don't have a imitate rush as to when it has to be fixed.

LATEST UPDATE... After rechecking wiring and resetting the computer... Started up the engine, ran perfect, made a run to town with 2 stops. When restarting the engine after my last stop it hesitated, the light came on and the engine ran rough for approx. 5 minutes after that it smooth right out and run perfect (engine light still on) Stopped at Auto Zone and had them pull up the latest code.. P0205 shows the following.
Definintation: Fuel injector condition - injector number 5
Probable causes
1. Open or shorted fuel injector
2. Open or short in electrical circuit
3. High fuel pressure regulator
4. Fuel return line blocked
5. Check TPS and circuit for failure

Where to go from here? Just about ready to pull the check engine light out since the engine is running perfect right now with the light on, lol.

Borrowed a friends fuel pressure gauge and checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail, 40# with the key on and 50# with the engine running, well within normal tolerances.
This tells me that the pump and filter are in good shape... Having now run and checked out everything but pulling out and replacing injector #5, I thought I would ask a couple more questions on the forum first.

Can a injector have a intermittent short causing it to miss and turn on my engine light? After that the computer seems to make the proper adjustments and the engine runs fine but the light remains on.

Finely!... I replaced injector number 5 with a new one about a week ago now and It has been running beautiful ever since. Problem now solved! Thanks to everyone for their input... It was a easy fix to replace #5, only had to unbolt the fuel rail on the drivers side and lift it just high enough to remove the old injector.

The generic code from Autozone is not quite correct.. P0205 is an electrical fault in the #5 injector circuit, so things like fuel pressure or TPS won't set it.. and I'm pretty sure a blocked return line won't set it, because there IS no return line.. :)
