Anyone know? I need to swap the short block and was wondering if I can use a 2006 engine in my 2005? maybe they made improvements? Will the sensors/senders still work?

I don't want to go pull it out only to find out it isn't compatible.

Different:eek:il pump(rockauto says same), starter(rockauto shows different!), flex plate, transmission(dont care), torque converter(dont care), water pump, thermostat housing....

Same: Oil pan, oil pressure switch, oil pickup, cylinder head is 05-07, head gasket(01-07), timing 03-06, exhaust manifold(04-08), intake 05-07,cam(05-07), intake valve 2000-2009, crank damper(2000-2009), crank(05-08).
flexplate(04-09), rod bearing(05-09). piston assembly(04-07), engine mount, air temp sensor(01-09), cam sensor(04-06), crank sensor(02-07), oil pressure switch(03-06), radiator(04-06)

Oil pump doesnt scare me... The starter, flexplate does... But crank is the same so it should take the 05 flexplate and starter then? Rock auto

MIke:
Are you talking about the 5.7L here? One big difference is that the 06 5.7 will have MDS cylinder shutdown, whereas your 05 does not. IIRC, there may be a Ram truck engine in the same range without MDS that could work. Have you considered rebuilding the '05, or is that not an option due to damage?

sorry 4.7, I did accidentally pick up a good 5.7 but I cant swap it out due to sheer amount of headache. This 05 is locked up, crank/block ruined.
I'm eyeballing a 06 4.7 SLT in the pull yard. It has great compression and ill cut open the oil filter/check the oil in the pan.
