Love 'em, hate 'em (or just love to act like you hate them) ? today was a day in history for the Durango and the little engine that could.

Mack Avenue Builds Final 4.7; Looks Forward to Pentastar
"by Max Gates and Jeff Kalinowski
April 9, 2013 7:16 AM

Employees at Mack Avenue Engine Plant I (Detroit) built the final 4.7-liter V-8 engine last week, ending 15 years of production that yielded more than 3 million powerplants used in Ram trucks and other Chrysler Group products.

The last 4.7-liter was signed by employees and will be displayed in the plant?s lobby."

So it'll never be used in a vehicle again?! I wonder if they cut corners on the last one?

I think the updated Pentistar engine plant will see the same 3 million (or probably more) engines getting built there as well in probably 12 years time. I love mine; oil changes are nice and easy!

I liked mine in my '01. Good engine! It maybe never got the mpg that a little V8 should have, but fun to drive. I'm hopeful the Pentastar is a worthy, reliable and strong replacement.

I hope they get the Pentastar head problems completely resolved so they can be as reliable as they are performers!

I believe it's all fixed now. Someone must have smoked a little too much when setting up the tooling jig for the CNC machine and put in 0.01 instead of 0.001 for the problematic side (I imagine) and the valve seats are just "popping out" with that much slack.
