I haven't gotten the rules from the plant yet, but what Bill wrote is consistent with prior tours. I'll be checking in with the plant this coming week.

We may be issued sleevelets and belt-buckle guards as well.

Closed shoes, no loose clothing or jewelry, don't be an idiot or a jerk - the usual industrial tour rules.

Make sure you're signed up folks. So far for the plant tour I have

BangkokD has just registered for the full slate of events. I got 4 tickets on the RSVP site, but I forgot to put BangkokD for my last name so look for Danek.

Official confirmation and tour rules. I've asked my contact to let me know what the hard cutoff date is.

Hello Tom,

As the date for your group tour of Jefferson North Assembly approaches, I'd like to confirm some of the details with you.
Right now I have the following:

Date: 8/19/11
Time: 9am

I checked your blog this morning, and if I'm reading the information correctly it looks like approx 18 people are registered for the tour (with one person not indicating the number of attendees). I'm not certain if I've given a limit to the number of attendees in previous emails, but we have a maximum tour group size of 30 participants. This is definitely a safety issue, as well as large groups tend to be a distraction to our production team. Additionally, space is limited for seating on our tour carts which is definitely the preferred way to tour JNAP in the summer!

I saw some questions relating to safety requirements during the tour on your blog/website. It looks like the issue was already covered pretty well by one of your members. However, officially we tell visitors the following:

Required PPE will be provided by the plant. Guests should wear long pants that reach to the top of the shoes. Footwear must be of substantial construction. No high heels or open toe footwear is authorized on the production floor.

Additionally, I should mention that children aren't allowed in the plant. I realize some families might be making this trip as a family vacation, however, for safety reasons we can't allow anyone under the age of 18 to take part in the tour.

Please confirm the details (above - date, time, size of group) at your earliest convenience. Of course, also let me know if you have any questions.
Edit: just heard back and the cutoff date is August 10.

Well, it sounds like I'm flying just at the same time this event is going on. I'll arrive at DTW around 2AM Saturday the 20th. Don't know if there are plans for breakfast on Sat, but maybe I can stop in on my way north as the family will be with me and emergency calls from my father wanted me to visit ASAP. I wouldn't be involved with the DOC event so-much, just stopping by to say hi and shake hands if possible.

Brian, how long will you be in Detroit?
We can probably meet you for breakfast at some legit hour Sat morning.
It'd be nice to put a face to a name at least.

I'm in MI for 9 days, 1-1.5 days in Pontiac and the rest in the tip of the thumb. I figure it'll be at least 2 hours to get thru baggage claim and get a rental car and then I'd waste a few hours looking at my old house from the 70's. I'll e-hand someone my cell # when the day comes. Not sure what car rental, but I'm looking at a full size. Let me know of a b-f spot and a time when the day grows near.

I guess that'll cut my number down from 4 to 2. Sorry kids.

Yeah, the no-minors thing is almost universal on real industrial tours, no fences or catwalks and we'll be IN the plant, but they can still enjoy the Museum and Woodward!

Cool another plant tour! I'm reading this waaaaay late and already have plans for that weekend, but I'll have to keep up with things here and get to it next time. I'm really hoping to get to Carlisle next year too.

Little more than a week to go and I'm off to North Carolina this week for some Megalodon shark tooth diving 50 miles off shore. Then back home to start cleaning the truck up. I'm driving out and plan to be there Wednesday afternoon or later. This gives me Thursday for some street cruising fun.

I'm really looking forward to the plant tour.

Kicking around the idea of hitting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the drive home. It'll add a couple hours to my trip, but I was planning to split it into two days anyway, so I'd leave Auburn Hills early enough to hit the museum at opening time.

Anybody been? worth the trip?
