Yes, it's a sad presence indeed!
Dave, have any of the Dak R/T guys mentioned going?
Lets go people, this is a site to see.

My wife and I plan to be there for the DreamCruise on Friday with the Crossfire Group, I already have my reservations with them. We park at 13th and Woodward at the Chrysler exhibit lot. I still own my Durango but don't plan to drive it to the event. Would a Crossfire be allowed in the parade to the assembly plant?

Last year a retired Chrysler exec, a member of our group, was able to talk Chrysler into bringing in the Concept just for our group.

As I recall, an esteemed member who seems to have a penchant for bringing rentals to DOC events, once came to a plant tour in a Mustang. :bugeyed:

Booked the hotel today. I'll be getting out on Wednesday the 17th which will give me Thursday to rest up from the long drive before all the fun starts. See everyone out there.

Plant Tour

Yo, Jen and I are on board. Her sister lives in Novi. :)

Back to my old stomping grounds. :cheesy:

FWIW, I'm good with the 8 mile suggestion.

LOL

It's not that bad guys? there's really not too many folks left downtown.

BUT, if you'd rather, the Tigers play the Indians Friday & Sat night @ 7:00pm.
The new park is faboo, but I really miss Tiger Stadium. It had that "old ballpark" feel.

We're going to try to rush headlong into the '90s and use some technology to keep track of all this.

Lauren has set up some 'events' on plugmyevents.com for people to sign up so that we can have a decent idea of who's at what when (most important for the plant tour, they'll need a firm number.)

When you sign up for an RSVP, use whatever makes you happy for your "first name", but PLEASE USE YOUR FORUM USERNAME FOR 'LAST NAME' and do get the correct number of "tickets" for the number of people that'll be attending.

For the folks that are in for the whole Friday/Saturday adventure, please visit The Whole Plant Tour Weekend.

A La Carte:Other than the plant tour itself (which needs an exact roster), this is mostly to get some idea of who's gonna be around when so that we don't leave someone in the dust.

This is an experiment to see if there's a better way to manage this than editing and reposting posts.
I'll post up the rosters occasionally so we all have a picture of how it's shaping up.

Hopefully everybody has their hotel signed up by now as the extra spots will go back to the Hotel to sell. You can still get the special pricing if they have rooms available.

On Saturday we'll have a lot to park at with the R/T guys. We're welcomed back from last year and they have a nice place to hang out and cruise from.

The parking lot is at
  • Technicolor
    51616 Woodward Ave
    Pontiac, MI 48342
Which is up on the Pontiac loop, which I think is a nice place to watch the cars go by, do some cruising yourself, and Pontiac has a big parking lot where there's all kinds of activities. We'll have to pay about $15 to park but the money goes to charity. I don't know the final price and you pay the paint store direct as they'll be open.

On a side note, I'm back up and running again.

In the stand alone electronics, the common fuel controller that fires injectors 5 and 8 cylinders was bad. This is the cylinder I had fuel in when we pulled the plugs to check out the motor. I have a back up stand alone in and everything seems to be running fine and I'm sending the original one back to have it inspected and repaired. On the positive side, the fuel injectors, fuel pump, regulator, compression test, and valve adjustment check all came out fine. Man too many things to do and check when something acts up!

Now just a little street testing, and I?m ready for the cruise. It sucks I ?m also still ready for the track, but I'll hold off till after the cruise.

Sadly it looks like a real fun event to be missing and wish I could go however, with swapping another motor in the Durango and work, I'm dropping all my money into the D to make her mine and my time is all backed up. It'd also be about a 20 hr drive and 1300 miles for me to do. I hope it's all fun for yall and maybe in the future I'll get to join in on something here.

Rules to live by.

I've spent the better part of 25 years touring manufacturing facilities for automotive and other industries and, in general (Tom correct me if you learn anything else), here are the rules I follow when offered a tour.
  1. OSHA approved safety glasses or goggles, along with ear protection, must be worn at all times. Safety glasses must have wrap around side shields. The plants typically provide both of them to visitors.
  2. You may have to take a safety briefing from the plant safety officer and sign a waiver.
  3. Long pants, short sleeve shirts and socks are required. Shorts, dresses, dangling or loose clothing aren't tolerated for safety reasons. Neckties must be removed.
  4. Shoes must have closed toes, and cover the entire foot. Over the ankle work shoes with steel toes are strongly recommended.
  5. Long hair must be tied back so that it won't fall into a machine.
  6. All loose jewelry (rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.) must be removed.
  7. Stay within the painted yellow lines and never enter an assembly area without escort or invitation of your guide or host.
  8. Observe and heed all in-plant signage and warnings. Nasty things are used to make fine products. :)
  9. Be aware of fork truck traffic and watch for blind corners where they might have trouble seeing you. Respect the reverse beeping.
  10. Don't distract employees during your tour as many will be working dangerous machinery. If you're interested in learning more, let your host or guide know and let them ask the employee for further demonstration or clarification. Follow their lead.
  11. If you act in an unsafe manner, you'll be asked to leave immediately and your privileges will be revoked.
  12. If you're found in the facility under the influence, you'll have your access privileges permanently revoked.
The bottom line is that manufacturing facilities are dangerous places and the goal is to make sure your tour is as safe as it can be.
