Durango turns over but wont run. (intermittent)

2015 citadel, 150k. For a few years now my Durango will decide randomly to crank faster than usual and not run. Might go 6 months without issues and then it returns. Might act up a little but then run and be fine. You can tell it's not getting fuel during one of its tantrums.

other (related?) Symptoms:
-random things happening on dash display sometimes when first starting it up;
-Front and rear defroster turning on for a minute, buttons non-responsive, and then going off by themselves (rare)
-radio stations clearing out (rare)

Things I have done:
-TIPM replaced 3 times.
-Fuel pump replaced once
Local shop thought it might be the Body Control Module causing problems but of course they can't fix it because it's a dealer item.

Things that "fix it" temporarily:
-letting it sit in the "on" position sometimes works before starting to get it a little fuel. But eventually once that no longer works;
-Taking out the fuel pump fuse and merely resintalling it will all of the sudden fix it, and it fires instantly. Eventually this wont work anymore and thats when it gets towed.
-letting it sit like after towing it somewhere then it will start working again (of course).

on a related note, just had a limp mode issue that was happening randomly. Had it at the dealer twice and they did full load test and blessed the electrical system after removing a "mystery aftermarket harness attached to the front left and right headlights". $1600. Despite all that it did the limp mode issue horribly on a trip so i took it back and they said the right cam sensor and harness seemed iffy so they replaced it. Now 3 weeks later here we are back at the starting issue again. Cranked it for 10 minutes. Popped fuel pump fuse out and back in and it instantly started!

Fun side note- this month was my last final payment on it! lol ugh.

I guess my next step is just to have the dealer replace the body control module regardless of if they say its good, which they just said it was! That's 800$. Any thoughts on this?

If you've never replaced the battery, which you didn't include in your long list, then that is your problem. A robust battery is integral to proper operation of the DD and when it's not, you'll have all kinds of electrical issues that have nothing to do with each other.

Yes, these are a sign the BCM isn't working correctly.
It can also prevent the car from starting depending upon the vehicle design.
Worth removing the BCM harness connectors and checking for corrosion.

Look at the wiring harness that connects to the fusebox under the hood.

Sometimes a wire or two will overheat + melt + causes weird things to intermittently function.

In my case the blower motor overheated + melted some wires under the dash but it also caused a wire to melt right where the fusebox connected to the wiring harness.

The part that the fusebox plugs into is called the TIPM + it fails a lot. Here's a company that repairs 2011-2013 Durango TIPMs. If you think this might be your issue contact them about fixing a 2015 one. 2011 - 2013 Dodge Durango TIPM Module Repair

Wait sorry just reread your post + you've replaced the TIPM 3 times. Please disregard what I wrote above.

I will say that before my TIPM was replaced I could pull the blower motor relay and it would start functioning again. After a while pulling the relay addressed the issue less and less. This sounds like something you've been doing.

Small update- I called the dealership and the same service guy from all previous times said "well The BCM is the last thing I would think it is". He started blaming the fuel pump relay but I told him I am on my 3rd TIPM so that would have been replaced everytime. He was supposed to "ask around" and call me back friday, but didn't.
It has been starting fine everytime since the issues appeared again when I started this thread.

As for the battery, it is a new Mopar battery. I had gone in and bought one from them over the counter earlier this year. When I took the vehicle in to fix the limp mode issue months later they immediately wanted to sell me a new $350 battery, blaming limp mode on that. When I told them I had just bought the battery from them a few months prior so no big deal it is under warranty so change it out, so he said he would take care of that, then they called back and all of the sudden "oh we charged it and got it to a good status now, great news, you dont need a replacement!":confused::confused::unsure:

SURE they did..........................
Wonder what it will be next?

Pistons not rotating?
Lifters not lifting?
How about the good old cam not camming? :mad: :mad:

Ok update for this thread, solved!
The Dirty Dango finally gave up running and none of my tricks worked. Using my TIPM bypass cable I figured out that the relay/tipm was working and 12volts were being sent to the pump. But I couldn't hear the pump running. Towed it to my local mech who said 12volts were going to the pump but there was only 6 volts at the pump. Turned out the harness was melted where the TIPM harness joined the main harness. They patched it up for free and now working great again.

This is the second melted harness I have had on this vehicle, the last time the cabin fan harness melted itself.

Um, you didn't notice that he fixed it?
