At lunch today my driver's window opened all by itself. It just dropped down in to the door. You can hear the window motor when you click the switch - but the window stays down?

Has anybody had this happen to them? Easy fix or one for my trusted auto mechanic shop to fix??

TIA

Did the cable mechanism break?
That would be my guess

Probably needs a new regulator assembly.

That's what I thought

Nah got the window regulator for the right passenger rear to do this weekend and now the left rear has quit.

Greg maybe you should just order parts in sets!
Like all 4 door motors together

Maybe when I go to Mopar Parts in April I can get you a direct Parts feed or account

You can hear the motor when you activate the switch.

You can also hear the cable slapping around when you do that?

Dropping it off at my trusted auto shop tonight - before the rain comes? They'll fix it first thing in the AM. :D

Ever since they went to nylon tracks or cables, window regulators don't last forever like they did in the "good old days". Then you just would burn a motor once in a while and just replace it when it went bad, or replaced the switches when they went bad. Not very often in either case. Now with the modern quality we get today, they break rather frequently. Go figure.

But it makes the vehicle lighter.

On a 4x I'd give up a few pounds for something that would, for all general purposes, be bullit proof.

We all need to face the reality that probably none of us can afford the ultimate do everything right machine, it just wouldn't be possible. But let's hope that this new guy trying to turn Chrysler around won't listen only to the bean counters. Let's hope he listens to the consumer and does something about quality control and longevity.

Weren't the bean counters the same ones who chose those fugugly interiors for the late 80's Mopar vehicles?

Heavens no. I'm not after an ultimate machine, but also not one where everyday items were just cheaply designed and built. I'm hoping if the BOD and you all would like to contribute to a database of problems and reliability issues perhaps a picture will emerge that we could unofficially present to DC or whatever the new corp. will be called to highlight what can and should be taken into account in new vehicles.

I don't expect 100% reliability and don't want to rehash what I've been saying for years but suffice it to say that the resale value of the vehicles we so cherish speaks for itself. We can and should expect from any company where we purchase the most expensive products we ever buy apart from our home to be built with adequate parts. Not the cheapest because if you use that argument I'd ask you how does Toyota or others do it if their vehicels are made here? If they'd spent 20 more dollars per vehicle to make a seat railing that doesn't fall apart or lubricated BJs would it have really raised the price of our Ds? Etc. etc

Bean counters are fine but you don't want to be penny savvy and dollar stupid.

Just heard from my auto shop --- it was the window regulator --- one is on it's way from Milwaukee, WI --- should be back together later this afternoon!

They fixed the popping noise coming from the front driver's side tire as well. One of the caliper bolts was loose (stripped) and the other was starting to loosen. These were the self-tapping ones I used a few years ago because the stock bolts stripped out when backing out the bolts. :?

I guess I'll save these $20 bolts for when this happens to the passenger side?
