Drivers seat comfort

I've waited a while to post this question to see if it got any better but it hasn't. I'm consistently finding myself uncomfortable under my upper left thigh and was wondering if anyone else is having any issues? I have the nappa leather option but I don't know if this is any different than the regular leather. It's almost like there's not enough cushion under there and it's bottoming out although when I press down on the seat it seams to have plenty of give without bottoming out. It's just weird. I have never had an issue with any of my other current vehicles(caravan, mustang, MKS, Saturn). I only weigh about 170 lbs. I may have to get a seat cushion but that will negate the ventilated seats that are great on those scorching days.

Have same problem, but with other leg, especially on long trips. I just can't find a comfortable setting. I love the d, but my mdx's seats were light years ahead of these. Prob best seats I've ever had to be honest. The durango's seats are a bit too unforgiving from my point of view.

I had an MDX too! I had a 2012 and the seats were amazing. I had a 2015 as well and they weren’t as comfortable as my 2012.... my Durango seats are just uncomfortable.

I am in the same boat and wasn't sure if it was me. I'm not sure if the padding is to hard and the seats being to narrow but the driver's seat is by far the worst seat I have ever driven in. I measured my mdx seat width prior to getting rid of it and will measure the Durango to compare. I too thought it would get better. Like Boomer says the MDX was night and day better.
Some prior vehicles for comparison:

The seats are very stiff/hard and uncomfortable, IMO. We took a two-hour road trip to Louisville this weekend and my back and butt hurt all the way up there. I wonder if they'll soften up a little over time because I don't think I could survive a longer road trip.

Belinda - I wouldn't keep your hopes up.... My brother has a 2011 JGC and the seats are still hard as a church pew.. I think they are pretty much the same seats unfortunately, unless they made some changes btw 2011 and 2014 that my rear end has yet to notice

Interesting to see I'm not the only one. My discomfort starts pretty early into the drive. For me it's just the one spot but the longest I've driven is about 90 minutes. Will be taking a few long road trips this summer so I'll have to start experimenting with some added cushioning. Being able to find a comfortable driving position is always a concern when buying a new vehicle but being uncomfortable was not something I thought I needed to be thinking about.

Yeah, the seats didn't really bother me until this weekend when I was sitting in it for two hours. Before that the longest drives I would take would be 45 minutes max. I bought my uncle this a few Christmases ago, thinking about getting a similar one myself for the longer road trips. You'd think with how far auto tech and design has come they'd add built in shiatsu massage...

+1 on the MDX comfort. We also just got rid of a 2011. Did any of you check out the new 2014? As impossible as it sounds, the seats are even more comfortable!!!

That said, the value proposition for a fully loaded ride just didn't compare to the Durango...

I haven't noticed what you all describe, but in fairness I haven't been on any long trips yet!

I agree these seats are very stiff & uncomfortable. I have Nappa which adds #4 seat foam...not real sure what the diff is, but if this is upgraded I'd hate to ride in one without it! I have also noticed that if I'm moving around in the seat I sometimes get a pop from the seat back by lumbar, they just seam cheap.
To answer the question though, I don't have any "lumps". I wonder if a spring under the seat has popped loose and is pushing on the cushion?

I know this post was old, but I just did a leather install in my D so I know the ins and outs of the guts of the seats... but there are ZERO springs under the front driver and passenger seats.... only metal pans that the cusions sit on and that the motors, etc attach to underneath... ZERO SRPINGS....

That was the first thing I told my wife when she purchased the the D. At first I thought cause our model lacked leather option the seats had less padding. But after reading your comments looks like a design flaw or driven by costs. The captain chairs in back are also stiff and don't recline all the way.
I will say I am getting used to the stiff but if we ever give some friends a ride they will probably notice immediately.

To the original poster, I thought the exact same thing you did. It's as if my left thigh seems to be in the air compared to my right. I thought I was crazy though and wasn't going to say anything :) I noticed the passenger seat doesn't feel this way which is very odd. At first I thought it was just because I sit my left foot in a different position than my right since it operates the pedals but even with cruise control on and my feet placed side by side it still feels as though the left thigh doesn't have as much support as the right. Weird...but oh well. One has to wonder if getting in and out of the vehicle and dragging over the left bolster constantly might cause some of this but I've noticed this from day one of driving the Durango. I'm curious to see how the seats fare on my 11 hour drive to my parent's back in WV in June and then on for another 5 hours to my brother's house in southern MD.

One thing I have noticed is that my right foot is uncomfortable while on the gas. I keep trying to adjust the seat and steering wheel to compensate. Really wish these had the adjustable pedals.

I also agree with the seats. They are stiff and to me do not offer much bolstering. Kinda flat. Like sitting on a leather milk crate that's heated and ventilated.

That's one thing I don't understand why they left out on the Durango. It's a family vehicle and thus will most likely have more than one person driving it. With it having memory functions for the side mirrors, seat position, and steering wheel position, it would only make sense to have the pedals adjustable as well. Even my old Charger that was 8 years older than the Durango had adjustable pedals...

i can say that the '14 Durango seats are way more comfortable then the '13, my buddy has a 2013 and his seats are hard and tuff, i recently bought the 2014 and he always saying damn they comfortable, lol..either way the new Durango seats are very comfortable. now if i can only stop my friend from trying to steal my racetrack led lights..sheeeessh

I have no issues with the comfort of the seats...I actually think they are quite comfortable. Nothing like the seats in my Volvo S80, but good nonetheless. I do agree that the pedals should be adjustable though as I have had a hard time getting my right foot in just the right position for longer trips.

as for this... possible but limited sources... you can swap out with other Ds and JCGs but I believe thats about it. (withough ENORMOUS amounds of modding / wiring in my opinion)

They guy I got my '12 leathers from did an SRT interior swap... he used a different cushion for the driver seat (sent me his '12 RT cushion)... I could only assume that he used a JGC SRT cushion for his driver seat...

as to the comfort of that particular seat ?????? I dont know... but I know that I have not had any issues with my '11 seat cushion or, so far, my '12 seat cushion

You could try visiting an interior shop and see what they can do.
A good one is adapt at rebuilding seats with new foam and there are many grades of foam just like beds.
You could even put a pillow-type top on the foam and then recover it.

There are lots of options to work with your seats to chance them and a good interior shop will know how.

Glad someone bumped this old thread. Yeah, that left thigh bolster is not too comfy..

May all be personal preference, but my wife and I both find the #5 foam in our Nappa Citadel seats perfect.
No discomfort even after 10hr stints.

However, I found GM Lamba's to give me numb butt within 4 hrs...both the Enclave and Traverse.
Only GM SUV seats I found comfortable long haul were Tahoe/suburban.

I came out of a 2007 titan with cloth seats, and by comparison they were much larger and way more comfortable my Durango's are narrow which is ok because I am also narrow, but they are very stiff and I find myself adjusting leaning etc. The back seats on the other hand are so comfortable, but I have not road in them for any length of time, hence I am the only driver and typically it's me driving alone.
