Customtronix Jailbreak Install in '14 Limited

I installed the Coastal Electronics MYGIG Lockpick in my recently-traded 2008 Durango. I was looking for a deal on a C8 version of the Lockpick for my new-to-me 2014 Limited when I ran across a thread about Customtronix. They apparently have a software-only solution to enable entering addresses in the Nav system while driving as well as watching videos while driving. Not that I think that last part is too smart!

I ordered the Customtronix Jailbreak Bronze for my Durango, downloaded the software update from the web and, per directions, saved it on a USB stick. The installation wasn't totally trouble free, but worked fine the 3rd time around. It aborted the first two attempts for some unknown reason. Nothing was lost as the radio reverted back to its pre-update stage. I tried a different USB stick for the third try and left the engine running throughout the process and it worked fine. No need to remove the trim and radio - it's all done through the USB port.

They also offer a cable that enables additional video/audio inputs for front cameras, TV, etc. I had no need so didn't buy that version.

Overall, a good product, a hands-off installation and at a better price point that the Lockpick solution.

Did the install. Not happy!!
The install got part of the way through, crashed and said 'software isn't compatible to the current year'.

Ok. System reset itself and now the Maps are gone and XM radio is gone. And my standard radio stations have no sound coming out of the speakers. Every station I turn to says 'reserved' above the station on the screen. Really weird.

Have you let your radio sit for a while to obtain all the stations and maps? That's one thought. But I would definitely reach out to Magnus at Customtronix. He is usually very quick to respond. I had a few hiccups when I installed mine and he was able to work through them pretty quickly with me. Worst case for now, revert back to the stock OS by downloading it from Uconnect to another usb.

However, the good thing is that it may be installed correctly without the maps or XM radio. The DVD plays while driving now. Which is what I wanted along with using the GPS while driving. However, can't test the GPS because no maps currently. So I'm gonna take to the dealer to have them reset correctly and get my maps & XM radio back. Then I'll check to see if I can input GPS data and watch tv while driving. If not, I'll attempt to reinstall software again.

I am pretty certain they ask for your VIN when downloading stock software so it should have the maps and everything just as it is supposed to in that file. Sounds like they need to make some tweaks with the jailbreak though, I would certainly check with him before you reinstall. Have you heard anything about them trying any more with unlocking SRT pages and such on the Durango?

When the system reset itself, the SRT background came up. Which surprised me, then the radio automatically reset itself again and it came back up with the standard Dodge logo. When installing the jailbreak, it did ask me if I wanted to install the 'speed lockout bypass feature' which I didn't know we had on our vehicles. Not sure when/if the speed lockout actually kicks in.

I have sent the error details to customtronix and they're supposed to get back to me today. They said I was only the 2nd customer with this new software for the 2016 and it may still have some errors in it.

Took Durango to dealer to have maps & XM reinstalled. They had to reorder me a brand new radio. Will take a week to arrive. They were unable to do a simple refresh or update of the factory settings. They said each radio is VIN number specific. Now I'm afraid to retry the jailbreak once I get the new radio in. May have to go with the more expensive Lock Pick.

I'm surprised they didn't void your warranty and make you pay for it.
Never take it to the dealer with customtronix installed. They will provide you with roll back software if you need it.

Not surprised the dealer couldn't update it, I believe customtronix adds something to the software so regular updates don't work so it won't overwrite there software.
