I'm going to schedule my D for some service work next month. mainly tranny service and cooling system flush. service tech told me the technicians refuse to flush the tranny's so I'm good there.

my question is what hoses need replaced when I do this?

so far I know about the upper n lower rad hose. heater hoses and the bypass hose?anything else I need to replace?also I'm putting in a new 195 t-stat.

all this stuff is coming from Napa. is it safe or should I get genuine Dodge stuff?

The Prestone antifreeze flush kit.

RebelX,

1st, ignore those guys above. LOL. Hubcap gaskets and muffler bearings be damned.

2nd, I'd go 180 on the stat if I were pulling out the old one. Regardless, make sure you get a 'fail to open' stat. Also, have the 1-way valve at the base of the tranny-cooler/radiator replaced at the transmission shop. Also, when it's in that's the perfect time to service the front and rear differentials.

NAPA stuff is fine if not better at times. NOT The hoses however. Get the real deal from Dodge.

lol. I know when people are tryin to screw with me. didn't grow up around highperformance cars/engines/farm machinery n learn nothing.
beisdes this matter is a lil to serious to be joking around on anyways.
I allready did the diffs this spring/summer. I'll get all the stuff from Dodge then. why the 180 stat? I thought the newer motors were designed to run with a certain stat or is that the chevy's only?

Heat kills. The 180 stat is fine. Don't go the 160 or 165 however. That's too cool for the PCM and it'll continuously keep asking for fuel to 'warm up'

The 195 stat was added to meet certain operational standards and conditions dealing with environmental standards and mileage. Nothing to do with performance or what's best.

This coming from the king of the ball busters! Rebel I believe Indy was the one to introduce us to that site in the first place! :cheesy:

BTW
Even if you have a 180 stat you engine will get to full operating temp , the tstat just opens sooner.
Either stat will work fine with a proper Antifreeze mix and clean cooling system.

just another vote for getting Mopar rad hoses (gates or equiv should be fine for the heater hoses), and the 180-185 T-stat on the 5.9?

might as well pop on a new radiator cap.

thanks tom. I actually forgot about the rad cap.

I need everything perfect not only becuase of the dirty cooling system. but I'm planning a trip either to the northern most Minnesota or down around the coast in Alabama?basically at least a 15hr drive anyway you look at it?tru reliability check on any vehicle in my opinion. cause I plan on it being non stop?well other than stretch and a total cool off.

On his 99 Indy the cap is on the radiator and is sold seperately

:?

In my post about me spending 1/2 the morning one day at the side of the interstate with a blown custom hose, I posted the latest Dodge part number for the stocker hose I got that included the cap. Maybe that's new now? Dunno.
