The Check Engine light just come on for my 2001 D with a 4.7 and 112K miles. My son started it to help me hook up the trailer and, when he pulled up, stopped and put it into reverse, the engine hesitated and almost stalled. I did the three key trick and it showed P0551 and then P stop. I have no idea what this could involve? Thanks for any help or opinions.

I just checked under the hood and the battery is fine and the belt is good. I did notice one of the lines from the pump is oily and it looks like it's leaking from a wired connection on the hard line. Is this the power steering switch? I'll be able to get a better idea during the daylight tomorrow.

Fix the leak NOW!! The power steering fluid will wick through the wiring harness and cause all kinds of electrical grief with the PCM and other sensors. You may have to open the wiring harness up a bit to clean out all the fluid. Use a good residue free spray cleaner, like brake cleaner, to get the oily crud off of the wires and then re-wrap the opened section of harness.

ABS and brake lights will be one of the issues with this leak if it's not fixed STAT.

I cleaned the oil off the wires, re-wrapped the wire loom. and dried off the entire mess. I removed the battery to have more room to work and, after the new part was installed and everything was put back together, I took the D for a ride. The CEL is still ON and the odometer window still flashes a P0551 code. It drove fine, but I need the light OFF. Any ideas? Faulty part from Auto Zone? I'm running out of ideas and know this site can help me. Thanks in advance!!
