can't install grille guard to my 01

We purchased a grill guard that came off a 99 and were told it fits 98-03 Ds.

When we tried to attach it, we found there's nothing on the bottom of my D to attach the guard to. The top attaches with brackets but there's nothing anywhere near the bottom of the guard for it to connect to.

Has anyone else tried to add one of these guards to their D? Did you need any add'l parts?

There's just nothing on my D close enough for the guard to touch, let alone be attached to.

Please help! I don't want to have to return this grill or re-sell it.

Thanx Q!

just to clarify?

I have the big brush grill guard, it goes from one side of my D to the other, and from the hood all the way down and under (somehow.)

I don't know what you're referring to here --> "There's a metal tubular bracket that the old one was attached to. The bracket also bolted to the underside of the hood."

It sounds like you're saying we're missing the bracket for underneath my D to attach the brush grill guard to, correct?

We're not sure who the manufactured it, so I don't know where to go for more help, diagrams or pictures, which would be really helpful.

Can someone who has a big brush grill guard take a pic underneath their D so I can see how/where it connects to their D or links to diagrams of where it connects to the D?

I have an 00 rango and a Westin push bar. For the top bolts, there's a bracket that bolts to the inner bumper brackets and comes out between the top bumper and the grill. The bottom has a bracket which attachs to the frame or bumper bracket (can't remember) and comes down to attach the lower parts of the push bar. I can't take any pics to show you cause I'm not near my own computer or the D.

manufacturer's name unknown

I have the guard and bolts attached to it.

I can hook it up on the top underneath the hood just above the bumper but, for the bottom, there's no place on the D to attach it to.

The bottom of the guard comes down in 2 parts and at the bottom of the guard are bolts. these bolts are supposed to attach someplace on the D but when we look underneath, the axle is nowhere near the guard, nor is any other part or the D's frame.

I just dunno where I can attach this guard to - unless there's another piece I need to attach to both the guard and D.

That's why I requested pics of Ds with the big brush grill guard so I can have some sort of visual reference.

What I have is similar to this, Grill Brush Guard Dodge Dakota Durango Free S/H, except the bottom of mine curves up slightly more.

It looks like it attaches in the same manner as my bull bar did, which means you should have two brackets that attach to the bumper mounting bolt holes underneath. It'd have a total of 4 bolts on each side - two for the top and two for the bottom drop. As for the rest of the mounting, it looks like you have that figured out?

I'd shoot you a pic or two, but my son broke our digital camera?

there should definitely be 2 additional brackets that mount with Bumper bolts then they bolt to lower of Grille guard if those are missing you'll need to get them or fabricate those.

The bumper mounting bolt holes underneath?? Of the D or the guard?

The guard doesn't reach any part of the D underneath. I think I need an add'l part to attach both to?

In TazDevil's bottom picture, that's the mounting point for the bumper (well, one of them.) There should be a bracket that attaches with bolts in those holes and makes a lower mount where the brush guard would attach to.

Here's some pix I previously posted of my Smitty Bilt "Outland" grill guard with the specifics you're looking for.

Head-on view

Sound to me like you're missing the 2 lower brackets that go from the bottom of the bar to the frame rail?

Without knowing who actually made your bar, or being able to get these brackets from whomever you bought the bar from, your other option would be to have a local machine shop fabricate some for you (which "shouldn't" cost more than $20-30) Heck, if you're into DIY, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. sells flat bar steel you could bend, drill, trim and paint to make your own brackets.

Brush Guard

Al's pix are much better, but here are the ones I took? It's a Go Rhino! Sumatra 2000 with step.
