Can I pull this with my 2019 Dodge Durango R/T 5.7 L V8 Hemi

I have my eye on a 2013 Forest River Heritage Glen. Dry weight is 6840 and is 36 feet long. I have a after market class 3 hitch with sway bars option. I only plan to tow it an hour away from my home on flat roads in Florida. I do not plan to tow with fluids in the tanks or gear. I will transport the gear with another vehicle. It going to a dry camp site without hook ups for camping and will stay there from September to April of this year. As mentioned I have a Dodge Durango R/T V8 Hemi. Will this be ok to pull my RV that I am interested in this short of a distance?

Will it tow it? Sure. You are within the mfg. weight.
BUT, you did not mention hitch weight, AND more importantly, the length is excessive for safe towing on the Durango wheelbase. You say only an hour? It takes a mere few seconds of that trailers “tail wagging the dog” and you will get bent out of shape at speed. Borrow/rent a proper tow vehicle for that 2 hour round trip, and be safe for yourself and others.

If the tongue weight is 740lb or less and have trailer brakes, it should be ok. The Durango has built in sway control as well.

My wife pretty much put her foot down and said this is what she wants that’s listed below. I ain’t complaining.....lol I just want to be safe as I am a newbie. Please fellas let me know if my DD V8 Hemi will handle safely. I do plan on a hitch upgrade with weight distribution and maybe brake control. Thank you again gents!

I've got a F350 dually with Diesel that just loves to pull heavy things for sale OP

The 2014+ late-model R/T already has every element of the 'TRAILER TOW GROUP IV' package with the exception of the hitch itself, wiring, and radiator (small fractional difference in radiator thickness equaling ~1/2 qt of coolant).

I installed an aftermarket DrawTite hitch, 7-pin wiring harness, and brake controller on my 2018 R/T. But I went much smaller with my travel trailer (17', 3860# gross trailer weight).

That said, I agree with you that the OP is at or above the limit for the DD.
The trailer tow package IV is what sold me to get my RT........love the class 4 hitch, need it to pull my jeep and camping equipment.

OP, like everyone else is saying, that trailer is just a little too big to be safe IMO.

Just going to put this out as well, don't just think about the tail wagging the dog, I had family that were pulling a small camper (12-16ft I think) well in the limits of the VW Tiguan they drove.......a big gust of wind on the highway flipped the trailer and them over on the highway last summer. Need to consider size for weight as well and profile when pulling.

You need a truck to tow something that big. You also have to take into account total payload capacity of the Durango. If your hitch weight is at 730 your at max, now through in the weight of you and your wife (est 325) and your already over 1000lbs payload. now add in all the crap you take for the camper and your going to be over. Also, Towing with a Durango I would not be comfortable with anything over 25 feet. Anything above that should be at least a 1/2 ton but preferably 3/4 ton truck

Update! Today I just purchased a 2015 Jayco White Hawk 28DSBH ......hitch weight is 635 and dry weight is 5460 lbs and cargo weight is 2040 lbs. I believe I can tow this RV with tanks full and gear. My DD is 5.7 L V8 Hemi with towing capacity of 7400 lbs. I have 2040 pounds of lee way for gear which I doubt I will go no where near 2040 lbs with tanks full and gear. They are also putting on weight distribution hitch, control break and wiring on my DD. I believe I bought the perfect RV regarding tow for my DD. I have room meaning in pounds to tow comfortable and safe. What are your thoughts and tips you can give me. Thank you!

Congrats! Do you have experience towing a large trailer? That is still on the high side weight-wise, in my opinion.

Do some practice towing with it empty. I would also recommend loading it up as if you were going on a trip and go have your rig weighed one axle at a time. I think your limiting factor above all others will be the weight on your rear axle of the DD.

hitch weight 635lb, dry weight is 5460. Add in water, tanks, weight distribution hitch, your close/at max tow. 28 feet? Thats a long SOB for a Durango. Also, what is the GWVR of your durango? (total weight of your car including cargo, passengers, hitch weight and durango itself). GCWR?. Either way I think your not going to like the tow in the wind with it, but to each their own. Also you never mentioned if your Durango has the factory tow package....
