Happened to me earlier this week. I have never had a piece of road debris do this much damage. It took out both the tire and wheel. I was about 40 miles out of town on the interstate and fortunately was VERY glad to have a full size spare and was able to get back on the road in about 30 minutes. It was an immediate blowout and I have to say that the traction control worked flawlessly and kept me perfectly straight and in control. I now know why the trailer package has a full size spare because if I had only a donut spare and the car had been fully loaded and trailered, the donut just would not have cut it.

What in the heck did you hit? A railroad tie with metal spikes in it?

It was a very large bolt, about the length of a railroad spike. Saw it at the last second. I was caught between a semi and a jersey barrier so no way to avoid it.
