blower motor resistor

What would cause the front blower motor resistor to burn the 1 and 2 connectors. I noticed the heat wasn't working yesterday when I got into my Durango after work. So I started looking at the wired and happened to unplug the resistor and seen it was kinda melted on the 1st two posts. Can't the resistor been bad and did it to its self, or would something else cause it?

Its common for the plug to fail they sell a repair kit that will take care of it

there is a lot of current running through the wire when running, especially at start up

What year? My 2003 blows resistors like it needs the drug money. I have a feeling some antifreeze got into the cable bundle when the heater core leaked the first time and has caused me issues ever since, though it has been on decent behavior the past year. Typically every winter I'll go through 4-6 resistors and often keep a spare for when, not if, it goes.

Mines a 2003. I've since replaced the resistor and the wiring harness ( to the resistor) because that got fried as well, and it seemed too be fine, but once in awhile when I start the truck up when it's cold, the fan does want too work, but when I wiggle the wires it starts working. I've checked all the wires and they all seem too be good and tight. But I've notice the pluggin too the fan looks a little melted. The auto part store told me that it's the fan that's bad which causes the resistor to go out is this true or are they trying too sell me that to?

Hard to say from my experience. When my resistor fails it always works on full speed, just not on anything less than full speed. Do you notice this as well or do you get different symptoms?

when my '03 failed, it wouldn't run at any speed; there was a link inside the resistor that had failed (of course, it did this when I was driving home from Vermont, 35F and raining..) .. the original resistor was the older "card" style; the newer "ceramic" style may not have a blowable link for full speed..

pre-2000 (or maybe 2001) there was a relay that bypassed the resistor when running high speed.
