What's up with the sensor thing right in the middle and underneath the OEM battery? What does it do?

Also, if you've ever had the battery completely out, the tray the battery sits in is way over engineered. Heavy plastic, huge and both bolted and tounge-n-groove connected to the D. DC could have saved a few bucks for something less, a lot less.

It just seems overkill and something however that appears to have to stay in place. :? :( I changed out the battery box, but had to keep the OEM tray due to the sensor thing connected right to the bottom and the fact there would nowhere to sit another battery if the tray comes out. Plus to make things worse, the tray is recessed and perfectly notched and sized to fit the OEM battery. To level out the bottom of the tray required a piece of something placed inside of the gooved out area of the tray. I had to fashion a 6.5" x 12" x 1" thick piece of material. I just taped the sensor down flat and placed the new piece I made on top of it and inside of the OEM tray spaces. I hope that's okay since I have no idea what that sensor is for nor why it's hidden underneather the battery.

The whole process to change out the box (not finished due to a broken bolt on a Stinger Digital Pro battery terminal) and put in the Optima Blue Top took a way to long 3 hours!

I estimate I could have used the Mopar Pro6 battery I had in there another year. How long to you think it'll keep just sitting on the garage floor? I may find something or someone that can use it. Fish trolling motor battery, a vechicle battery, etc. I just can't throw it away.
