I did a search for “battery tender” on this forum with no effective results, so here it is:

I have a 2021 SRT which I don’t drive much. (900 miles in 3 months) so it spends a lot of time just sitting in my garage. Both my Harleys which I ride daily have battery tenders and I want to put one on the Durango.

Has anyone done this? Ideally I’d like to have the SAE tail somewhere I can access it without opening the hood, maybe through the grille?

What about patching the tender to a cig plug and just plugging it into the always on socket in the center console? I could just close the door on the relatively thin cable.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm assuming here, but are you worried about pinching the cable under the hood?

If so, depending on how close you are to an outlet and how long and thin your cable for the tender is, you could fish it up under the hood near the windshield. Just keep it away from the hinges for the hood and you should be able to keep the cable from any bad pinch points like the sides of the hood have.

I have a NOCO G1100 battery tender/reconditioner I throw on my Charger 392 in the winter when it gets parked. On it I just fish it through the side of the hood and leave it slightly opened enough where the cable isn't pinched. I probably could feed it near the windshield like I was saying, but it isn't in the way of anything where someone would accidentally push the hood closed when it is plugged in so I don't worry too much about it.

I am still waiting on my 2021 DDSRT to be built, but can't imagine plugging in a tender would be any different than it is for my current 2018 DDRT. The handful of times I needed to plug it in, it worked great without issue. The hood pinching on the wire isn't any different than it is on my Charger, but I do leave the hood wide open on it if I do need to plug it in so my wife doesn't mistake it for being drive ready. If it were plugged in for days on end or so, I would probably route it near the windshield like I was saying before.

Edit:

I just went out and tried it, the cable on my tender at least, is thin enough to fully close the hood with enough room around it where the cable moved freely around.

I also have a few Nocos I use. When the wife's RT is parked for the winter I route the charging cable thru the round removable cover in the wheel liner. I believe this is an access hole to get at headlight bulbs?? I also use a noco 12 ft extension and a pigtail permanently mounted on the vehicle. Stays plugged in all winter. Hood closed and car cover on.
