392 Badging On A V6

Funny story, the title pretty much explains it all...I was out with the family today and I saw a white D in traffic with 392 badging on the side. He was about 3-4 cars ahead of me, but the "car guy" in me immediately knew something wasn't right about this rig. As I got closer to him I noticed there was no SRT badging on the rear or any other place on the truck whatsoever. Not only that, but there was no rear diffuser and his exhaust pipes were small. At this point I knew for sure this was NOT a 392. By now he's only about a half car length in front of me, I still decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, so I rolled down my window to check for the exhaust note...Nothing, this thing was quiet as a mouse. So now we both finally get caught at the red light and we're side by side. This is where the story gets really funny. He must've looked over and saw my 345 Hemi badging on the side, because when the light turned green he took off at a snails pace lol. I gave him a nice blast of Hemi exhaust note and went about my way. He continued driving extremely slow the entire time, until he was completely out of my rearview and lost in the traffic behind me. Why put 392 badges on a V6 is beyond me, you definitely won't fool any real gear heads out there. But hey to each his own I guess 🤷‍♂️

I've got my R/T Magnum that I've put a lot of SRT parts on. I want to get a SRT Design badge from a 300 to put on it. I'm ok with non factory badging, but not incorrect badges.

How about a few of these? Left over from when I had my Magnum SRT. I was going to put a pair of them on the front fenders.

Hey it's his ride and if wants to dream, let the guy. Putting a 392 badge on a V6 is not as bad as those eyelash things on VWs or worse, bumper or body stickers (not wraps)
On my SRT challenger I did the opposite and removed all the badging and will do the same on the DDRT.

This story is too funny, it's the "stolen valor" of the car world. I remember back when I had a WRX and hung around a lot of guys with Civics and the like...."Type R" or "Type S" was a very common badge to see on something that was never produced as such. I agree with the "to each his own" aspect to an extent, but some people just take it a step too far.

very funny indeed... and I agree, you aren't fooling anyone as people that don't know what it means, don't care and won't know and people like us that immediately look for the other badges, sound of exhaust, and easier than that, big red brembo's with different rims and wider tires, know exactly what's up lol.... and yes I realize the T&G has the red brembo's but I think the actual SRT 392 rims are still different than the T&G... I could be wrong on that one but either way if he's missing all these items it ain't no 392

it's funny that you got into it at a red light, and he went very slow hahah... guilt admited!

It definitely didn't have the brawn of a 392, especially the tires. You could just look at it and tell something was majorly off. I know I'm not the biggest, baddest, fastest Durango on the streets, nor I do I claim to be..BUT I am a true car guy at heart, always have been. Unfortunately, the car guy in me tends to feel a little insulted when I see extremely out of place badges like that, like c'mon bro, why are you insulting my car intelligence lol. It was white with the blacktop package, would've been a perfect rig just the way it came from the factory.

Just like the Charger world of yellow fender guards, the up-badging of non-factory specification cars is the holy grail of dorkapotamus!

Case in point:

This guy has the sack to slap a Demon badge on his Durango(not even sure if it is an R/T...can’t remember) in an absolute douche canoe move that has me baffled because his comments are overwhelmingly negative in regards to that being a huge no-no! Yet, he takes full ownership and pride in it.

Some people are just gunna do strange things...,its whether or not we have strength to tell them the truth about it and help them grow up 1 step at a time.

Lol! Man that Demon badge on the Durango takes the cake! Seriously, what is the purpose?! He's only fooling women & children...and insulting real Demon owners in the process.

EDIT Lol After reading the comments on his youtube page he seems to have done it for the good & bad attention it brings. He understands its quite the douchebag move and even pokes fun at himself. At least I was finally able to get a glimpse into the mind of an extreme up-badger..FWIW

In my mind, it's really quite simple: If you didn't buy a particular trim level, then don't mark it that way. There is no such thing as a Durango SRT lite. DODGE didn't produce any Hellcat-ish models either. The only reason to do this is to project yourself as something you (and your vehicle) are not. I believe there is a word for this behavior... "poser".

As for why the community can (and IMHO should) rail against this phenomenon, it's simple. Most of us would prefer not to be associated with the subculture where this originated. It was cute when the high school kids started putting stickers and fartcan mufflers their Civics, WRXs, and Evos. Then they started slamming them to the ground. Then came this ridiculous up-badging trend. But that scene should be left with them, and their cars. Up-badging is effectively street-cred fraud. It's high school crap.

If it doesn't make it go faster, stop better, turn better, or sound better, then just leave it at Pep Boys where it belongs. Better yet... Be an adult and rep what you bought. But if for some reason, you desperately need more street cred? Then buy a better truck.

Dodge should take a queue from your thinking. Paddle shifters on a low horsepower V6? Awesome looking hood that should be for performance models also available on V6 models. I personally do not like having a non performance vehicle look like a performance one, factory or not. But people buy and do what they want to, it is their vehicle and if they like it, so be it. I don't like it and would not buy a GT model with the Performance Hood but I am not someone to tell anyone what to buy or criticize their choice while speaking/writing with them.

I see this way more over in the Charger Forums, but it does come up here from time to time. Do what you want it is your vehicle, but expect backlash from your enthusiasts.

I see an up-badged SRT Challenger about once or twice a month near me, funny he never seems to try and pose when I am driving my Daytona 392. Caught him a couple of times "flexing" when I had my Durango and had to laugh, it is a V6. Saw the same thing with a Camero a couple of days ago as he gives it gas to show off, whatever he did to his exhaust it sounded horrible for a V6. I've also seen a Grand Cherokee with of course Hellcat badges on the sides, no Brembo's or anything else. I'll admit not sure if it was a 6 or 8 cylinder and she was just towing a trailer, but I still had to give her a V8 exhaust note as I went around her just for the heck of it [emoji6].

Lol geez the Challenger just skipped the R/T phase and went to straight to a SRT huh? On a side-note, the V6 Camaro exhaust is a tricky one, it's quite easy to make it sound worse than stock with the wrong exhaust.

@305r/t.
Ya, he skipped over one or two to the big boy badge, still a nice looking car minus that though.

@KANNINA
I've seen a render of that abomination before but it was in red. There are quite a few people that want a Supercharged SRT minivan apparently. Maybe nick name it Satan's Little Helper, fitting spin on the Simpson's dog name yes/no? LoL!

Just ridiculous, I have seen a clown near me on the LIE like that. My initial reaction was this guy knows absolutely nothing about cars & thinks he is cool. But in retrospect, hopefully he has a sense of humor & is being sarcastic. A debadged SXT isn’t ever going to pass as a SRT. He should’ve saved some cash & just put the turbo badges & fake vents you can buy @ Pep Boys. LOL. To each their own I guess. I feel the same way about the non SRT Durango’s with the hood vent & front fascia. I’d be pissed if I paid 60-70k for an SRT and my truck looks like all the rest on the road.

I changed some on my 2011 R/T, not really cheating in my book the way I did it. In 2011 Dodge introduced the Dodge Charger R/T Mopar 11 Edition, I liked that emblem so I bought one of the them and replaced the DODGE on my front grill with it.
