187k miles is crazy good for the 5.9 and the transmission.
Those are numbers the old slant 6 of yesteryear would hit (and higher)
rebuild the tranny or adjust the kickdown band to get a little more life out of it. (not much though)
Adjusted the kickdownband to the point that the adjusterbolt is equal with the outside of the locknut. Ill open the tranny this summer
(car runs and shifts ok as long as i dont step on it) to see if there is frictionmaterial left on the band and if its possible to change the band with tranny in the car. Already have a new band. Surprisingly how thin this frictionmaterial is.
Congratulations on your milestone! The 5.9 is a legacy powerplant that has roots all the way back to its grandfather the 318 poly, same thing for then trans which has roots all the way back to the cast iron cased original.
There is a version of the kickdown band that can be slid in without pulling the trans, I don't know how robust it is though. No there isn't much meat on those bands even new
Thx, but i managed last year to put in a new standard/original band with the tranny in the car. Posted the procedure here on the forum. Took me under 1 hour.
