250,000 mile milestone will hit this summer on our 2016 Citadel Platinum

I don't have much to report other than a few boring updates. The annual trip to take the grands to Panama City beach this summer, we will hit the 250k milestone. Looks like the Pennzoil Advance Synthetic from the dealer is paying off. She still gets very close to the same gas mileage on the highway since new. No oil burn, or loss. We had a small VVT hiccup @ one time, and spark plugs stuck coming out. Other than this she has been good to the wife. We just had our second water pump, and 2nd EVAP/fuel leakage. Other than that we've replaced the radiator. 1 ac compressor. 1 blower motor. 1 drivebelt, and idler. 1 set of full Akebono brakes, and Mopar rotors. 3 sets of Bridgestone Alenza plus. I have heard Bridgestone has got rid of Alenza, so I need to research another 85,000 mile tire. Other little small nuisance issues fixed. The gas fill door is still jacked, it will not open every time, the wife would put a plastic wedge in the door, and then taps the button. I've tried calling salvage yards. I will post the big 250k after the trip.

That is an awesome milestone! Congrats!! We had Dodge Ram trucks as delivery vehicles back when I was managing branches and we turned them back in when they hit 200K. They were not treated nicely but they were maintained. If you take care of the maintenance then the car will last.

Very nice!

I'm at 165000 on a 2014 AWD Hemi Citadel with all the options. It's just as awesome today as the day I bought it.

Other cars are starting to catch up with the features Dodge had available in 2014. Pretty amazing when you think about it + considering all the negative stereotypes reguarding American cars + not being on the cutting edge of tech.

If I were to ramble on about all of the Dodge/Chrysler cars we as a family has had in just the last 15 years, you would say no way. I have told these stories to GM, and Ford owners for years, and they always say bs. Her 99 Grand Caravan has 285000, 3.3l which we still have. I actually drove it to Panama City Beach last year, where it now lives. The family use it, when they fly to Florida. All the daughters went to college driving Stratus, pt's, and Cirrus. All of them went just over 200,000. The eldest grand is driving the last of the pt's it has 230ish on it.

What I've found is that overall Durangos arent that bad if you maintain them.

The problem areas are water pumps + the transmission is weird/odd to flush and fill.

Other than those issues very reliable.

We have been interested in the Durango's since the first year. Back in 2014, we rented a 2014 Citadel Hemi, and took it on vacation to PCB, and loved it. The Hemi was a little proud on the gas, but it was very nice, we were hooked. As the years went by we had one more daughter to leave the nest. In 2015 we test drove a 2015 Citadel platinum Hemi fully loaded, with dealer added tubular step bars. We heard the 2016 had a better option package, and instead ordered a 2016 exactly like the 2015 w/o tube bars.

The dealership service manager has high hopes if we keep up the maintenance like this we can get the mileage way up there much like the public service units.

So big question for you.
Have you had the trans serviced? Or just gone by Dodge that no maintenance is required.
Clearly at that high of mileage you're putting mostly highway miles on her which is easy on the drivetrain...but still.
250K is still 250K.

Chase 300,
I will tell you these questions are some late sleepy night thoughts for serious Durango owners. 250k is still 250k
I still have these thoughts. I have been pestered by the dealership for years telling me I should do the fluid drainage stuff.
So I called Mopar several times, and asked, and each call they ask:

1. Is this a service vehicle of any kind? (taxi, public service). No she is not
2. Are these highway miles, or all city miles? 75% highway
3. Have you had the fluid inspected by the dealer? Yes, and looks good. (1 hour for tranny, 1 for transfer)
Each call they say, there was no need. As long as it has not been used in water/mud, No maintenance is required.
You have the Maximum Care package, keep doing your oil changes at your dealer, and congrats on the mileage.
Yeah, and I'd hate to be on the side of the road due to a drivetrain lockup. Wife would poop a brick, not good on all levels.

"So, with that I have not changed any of the fluids in the drive train", but yet I still stay concerned.
I'm more concerned about the tranny, so I bought a tranny pan/filter combo and Z fluid 3 years ago.
We all feels, there is no such thing as lifetime fluid. (Nissan cvt says this, and look at theirs)
In the interest of the owner, changing the fluid is key for their investment, versus what Dodge says.
We have a Mopar lifetime warranty on her 2005 Grand Caravan nana's taxi 198k. (oldest daughter snatched that puppy)
One thing for sure I would like to say. Without Maximum Care, @ the minimum, I would be Out Of Pocket close to 10k in repairs @ a min.

Methodites:
Is that '16 the 5.7L or 3.6L? If you have the Lifetime MaxCare, I'd say leave it, since Dodge says that service is not required. Without the warranty, you would be on the hook for the $5K+ to replace it. In that case, I'd have it done every 75k or so.

Hi Don,
It is the 3.6L. I totally agree, just leave it. If I didn't have the warranty, Id have done it as well.
Although, during the time on the road, it's stays on my mind. Every time we stop for gas, I am looking all under for leaks.
By the time we get where we're going, I look like I just pulled a engine.

Pretty amazing! I am hoping for at least 200K from my '14 Limited V6 AWD, currently at 113K.

I am confident, You should hit it with no problem as long as you are religiously doing synthetic oil changes. You'll be fine.

You using the 0w 20 pennzoil? every ___ miles?

The dealer does use the Penn Adv Syn as I always ask. I take her to the dealer when the oil life percentage get down to 15%. The Dealership has always asked me since day 1 to come in every 6000k, but I was told by Mopar, no need until the oil percentage tell me to change the oil. So with this being said, being I have the MaxCare, versus a owner who do not, it does change one's perspective. If I was a non MaxCare owner I'd do it myself, and I would use Mobile 1 advance, which is what I have used in every Mopar I have ever owned.

That’s great. I have 221,000 now on everything except the motor and differential. I too have had very little trouble.

Other than the vvt system going wonky, and the fuel vapor leaks, she has been very reliable. The 3.6 water pumps you may get 85-90k on them before they start to leaking. Surprisingly the original drive belt was just replaced, and it still looked great. It had a few tiny cracks in it, I still wonder how many more miles was left on it.
Adding another high mileage data point to this thread:
  • 2014 AWD SXT+ (V6) just hit 164K miles
    • 80% of miles are easy highway miles with a small amount of light towing (under 2,000 lbs.)
    • All preventive maintenance done on schedule. Full synthetic oil changes every 6K miles
    • Transmission never flushed
    • Issues to date covered under Mopar Lifetime warranty
      • Radiator leak -- radiator replaced.
      • Steering rack leak. Very minor leak -- replaced because it was covered by warranty. Not sure I would have done this on my nickel given how minor it was.
      • Oil pump replaced: Was stuck in high pressure mode
      • Racetrack light failure after water intrusion
      • I'm not certain what the above items would have cost out-of-pocket, but I'm guessing around $4K. Paid $2,095 for Mopar Lifetime warranty.
    • Issues not covered under warranty
      • Moisture in front headlight
Still runs and drives fantastic, but the original rear shocks need to be replaced. Load leveling shocks have serious sticker price shock. No plans to replace this vehicle anytime soon, especially with the Mopar lifetime warranty.
