2024+ Durango (Next Gen) Rumors

2162 Views 43 Replies 23 Participants Last post by  JC Hemi
Dealer told me the next gen DD will be based on Jeep Wagoneer, which is obviously a larger vehicle with a standard I-6. He said it will be toned down some, luxury-wise, to come in lower than the $90k starting price on the JGW.
Has anyone else heard these rumors or have any updates on the future for the DD?

Dodge if you're listening...

The way to sell 6 cylinder engines is to align them with semi trucks + reliability.

Watch this video...
I got the vision teams of individuals are feverously working on the new 'Jeep' platform, they sit around a table when done and agree upon it... They then toss it to the 2 Dodge guys in the corner and say.... here ya go, make what you can out of it for the Durango.... :p

I placed my order now because I wanted a NA 8 cylinder, not a turbocharges or supercharged 4 or 6 cylinder. Ordered a R/T Premium TNG on March 17, still waiting for scheduling.

I hope it moves to scheduling and production by the end of the month. I am looking forward to getting it home!

I'm looking forward to the Hurricane I-6, but just PLEASE don't make it UGLY like the Jeep.
It also turns out the new I-6 runs on premium gas requirement.

The Hurricane standard output can run fine on regular fuel. It is not required. The H.O. requires premium.

My experience with turbos and regular gas is typically not a problem when specified. When it's in the 90's + out and towing, premium is the way to go. Regular will cause timing to pull back quite a bit under those conditions and performance suffers a bit. Everyones situation (weather and altitude) is different. During towing season I alternate octanes at half tank fills to achieve around 90 octane.
I based it on this comment on the Wagoneer build site:

The 3.0L Standard-Output Twin Turbo engine[1] with ESS is efficient and provides impressive torque and outstanding performance.

1. Premium fuel recommended for maximum efficiency and performance.

So, I guess that shoots the rumor in the head, that 23 would be the last DD?
Anyone else heard a rumor that the current Durango will make it into model year 2024 with a Hemi 392 option?
I'll have to look at that article. Thanks!
I drove a new Wagoneer with the no power I6. Got passed by a Yugo.

The Wagoneer is out now with the I-6, recently got a good review from Motor Trend. I can see how it could be the next Durango. 400+hp, 10k lb towing.

Last of the current generation. After the death of the Challenger/Charger/Ram Classic it was initially assumed '23 may be the last. But with the Wagoneer starting at $60, Dodge needs something to compete with the Tahoe/Expedition/Sequoia with body-on-frame and increased towing capability. So might as well make a lower priced Wagoneer-based Durango. We'll see if it appears this Fall or drags into 2025.
Whatever they do, they need to do make it competitive in styling, perfand economy AND work heavily on dependability. Both Durangos and Jeeps have been an embarrassment to Chrysler by acting more like F.I.A.T.'s who now own us.
The 10" FUconnect radio system will work flawlessly and never need an update.

Well you did say a RUMOR :ROFLMAO: (Just for you Vice)

Part of the reason why I went with the Durango was I wanted Comfort, performance and styling. I have always liked the current generation DD from day one. Last call on the V8's was 2023 so I was not sure if that was going to translate into the Durango or not. Decided that I was not going to take the chance to wait until 2024 and miss out on a V8, since the Jeep Grand Cherokee is seemingly Not available with the V8. We drove a Grand Cherokee Summit 6 Cyl and was underwhelmed with the performance, the Macintosh Stereo was really amazing tho, it had the massage seats which I found to be too firm and realized it would be uncomfortable in the long run. We learned a long time ago, the more buttons, knobs, adjustments, a drivers seat had the worse it sat. I drove a Durango R/T and liked the seats best out of all of the cars I test drove, Tried Ford, Buick, Cadillac. Went on a whim to drive an SRT to rule it out and was blown away, decided I was going to do it right. I would consider a V6 500 HP Hurricane Durango tho (in current trim).

Too bad that don't make a V6 Hurricane. It's a slant 6 with a starboard list!
