2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat - A Last Hurrah?

Most of you are in one of the four Durango Hellcat groups on Facebook so this isn't new, but I wanted to start a thread to hopefully keep updated with any relevant information.

Let me add to the rumor mill a bit with a discovery over the weekend. While checking a VIN for a DDHC being parted out by Schram Auto Parts I noticed it was actually a 2023 model. Naturally, I dug a bit deeper and found at least 14 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcats that Dodge produced as "vehicle development pilots." Why would Dodge build pilot vehicles with 2023 VIN numbers? Was 2023 the original model year planned for the DDHC and Dodge pivoted and pulled it forward to 2021 and as such all other pilot vehicle VINs are 2021s as they were produced after the 2023s?
Who knows, but here is a little bit more about how these 2023 pilots were configured...
  • All of them list Rear Seat Reminder Alert as standard (new feature)
  • Half were White Knuckle while the other half were DB Black
  • All but one was built with Demonic Red Leather
  • The only option on the one with Black interior was the Lightweight Package
  • All of them had Blind Spot / Cross Path as standard (similar to 2022)
  • All but the one with zero options were built with sunroofs, roof rails, roof cross bars, cargo compartment shade, and the Trailer Tow IV group.
  • Some were built with Forged Carbon Fiber Interior Accents but not the rest of the Premium Interior Group features
  • All of them had a "Restricted Models/Options" line item
  • No differences listed for engine, transmission, driveline, etc. (same as 2021 build sheets)
  • These will not be saleable units as Dodge has several rounds of pre-production builds, with the last round usually having some saleable units closer to production (similar to the 2021 DDHC pre-production units that have been hitting the auto auction scene with 500XXX VINs).
I wouldn't get too excited about this discovery, but it may be another small hint of a last hurrah for the DDHC in 2023. I guess we will have to see what they announce in the middle of August when they talk more about future models.

2023 Hellcat Durango Black Seats with Hellcat logo, Suede headliner, Suede Bolsters and forged carbon.
I Read earlier that these options weren't available. Seem to be now. Apologies if this is known information. Haven't read the whole thread.

Update: Ignore post. Just saw the odometer, has 27,000 miles on it. Must be a 2021.
Video title says 2023.
Can't find an option to delete a post. Is it possible?

Yeah has to be a 21 seeing the Hellcat logo on the seats plus the base price is too low for 23. Also, pretty sure I spotted a 1 in the year on the window sticker. Gotta love these misleading videos.

Mopar Monday Stats - April 24, 2023 - After the shortened holiday week, DDHC production resumed but at a slower clip than the weeks leading up to Easter. In all, 685 DDHCs have been produced and 653 of them have shipped (my data lags the actuals remember.) The upfitter seems to have caught up as only 10 or so DDHCs are still waiting on stripes. Still no signs of the Base trim models or any of the "new for 2023" colors rolling down the line yet after the production evaluation runs several weeks ago. The two Base trim DDHCs were shipped to dealers but pictures were never made available online. I found a few 2023 build sheets for DDHCs that will be exported so it appears Dodge is still shipping a few of these outside the US and Canada. Nearly 100 DDHC dealer stock orders are showing on the Dodge.com site in the various status of production and shipping. Some of those are already spoken for. If anyone is in the market for a "bulletproof" 2021 DDHC there is one for sale on eBay for $200k. Enjoy your week!

Midweek Stats - May 3, 2023 I've been a bit busy as of late and have some travel coming up so I wanted to get a quick stats update out there. I would expect my next update to be May 15. DDHC production has been steady since Easter with JNAP averaging about 50 units per week. There have been 765 produced as of yesterday and 707 shipped. My chart data below lags a bit as you are all aware. It looks like there was a 2nd quarter base price increase to the DDHC of $555. The new base price, $91,740, shows on all window stickers after April 1. No additional price adjustments to trim levels or optional selections that I have seen. DDHCs are getting exported as I have found a few going through Puerto Rico overseas as well as a couple destined for Saudi Arabia. Dodge Canada finally updated their website and our folks to the North can now see quite a few DDHCs in Canadian inventory or being built. Still 103 DDHCs showing on the Dodge USA site in "dealer stock." Dodge also released an updated dealer allocation list on April 18. There are 215 dealers remaining with allocations in the US. Still no signs of the new for 2023 colors or additional Base Trim units being produced after the production evaluation run. The stripes upfitter is keeping up with production as only 20 or so DDHCs are currently awaiting stripes.

Mopar Monday Stats - May 15 - DDHC production got a huge boost last week with over 115 produced, which was the highest production week YTD. Actual produced/shipped numbers are north of 900/800. My data is starting to catch up, but still lags a bit. Production recently was a heavy mix of dealer retail units and early order VINs. No update since April 18 on the DDHC allocation list. There are currently 233 DDHCs showing on the Dodge.com website and 49 on the Dodge.ca website. Remember these are dealer retail units but may already be sold. Good news since the last update is that we saw the first Vapor Gray DDHC produced and shipped to a dealership in Florida as a sold order. Dodge is also starting to roll out Red Oxide and Night Moves Durango units, but so far no DDHCs have been produced in those two colors. The other colors (Frostbite and Triple Nickel) have started production as well and we should see some units in the wild soon. I have also been told that JNAP is back to 10 hour days, 6 days a week so we should see an uptick in production numbers. On a personal note I will have to admit the data collection for 2023 doesn't have the same luster as 2021 with the bundled trim levels, limited options and colors (YTD). It will be very hard to get a 1 of 1 in 2023.

First look at Vapor Gray on a DDHC. Pictures are terrible, but hopefully the dealership will post more once they clean it up. I will keep an eye out for updated ones. Anyone close to Pensacola, FL that can stop in and get better pictures? This one is listed for sale at Hill-Kelly CJDR, but the build sheet shows it as a sold order so this might just be clickbait for the dealer. From these pictures the color looks pretty close to Granite from 2021.

It kinda looks like Bruiser Grey.

There is a newer challenger at work that just showed up and think it is Vapor Grey. It does look very nice and I would own the color as a form of grey is my favorite vehicle color. I will tell you all the panels on the challenger looks matched and nothing like the mismatch HC in the photo above.

Mopar Monday Stats - Memorial Day - May 29, 2023 DDHC production continued at a good clip over the past two weeks. Total produced is north of 1091 with total shipped above 977 (my charted data lags a bit). The new colors continue to trickle off the line and I anxiously await some good pictures of Frostbite, Triple Nickel, and Vapor Gray in the sun. At least 40 DDHCs are currently awaiting stripes to ship. At least 13 DDHCs have been exported (2 to Saudi Arabia, 4 to Kuwait and 7 to Puerto Rico). Big bad news this week is another price increase for DDHCs (and most Durango trims). Base and Plus Hellcat trim increased $1865 to $93,605 and $99,605 and Premium Hellcat trim increased $2170 to $104,810. No increases on any of the options. These price increases went into effect with May 18 window stickers. As a bonus I've included a picture from COPART of a 2021 DDHC in Reactor Blue with Sterling Silver stripes with polished "goliath" 5-spoke wheels that looks pretty sharp. Thank you to all who are serving or have served in the military across the globe and may we honor those who gave their lives doing so.

Mopar Monday Stats - June 26, 2023 - JNAP sent a bunch of DDHCs down the line last week (100+), with most of them being dealer stock orders. I am not sure if they are trying to get a bunch out before their 4th of July shutdown or not (if they still do that even). Total produced is over 1330, with total shipped over 1230. My data lags a bit as always. 360 DDHCs showing on Dodge's USA website with another 49 on Dodge Canada. About 40 DDHCs are in the queue for stripes to be added. I still have not been able to get my hands on "good" pictures of DDHCs in the new colors, but will continue to track those down. I have seen a few R/Ts in Triple Nickel and that color pops quite a bit more than Billet did. Still no DDHCs produced in Red Oxide, but there is at least one on order. I have not seen any DDHC orders for Night Moves. This weekend I head to VIR in support of Racing For ALS and our goal to help support a cure to #EndALS and support those currently battling this terrible disease. The Racing For ALS team just passed the $1M mark in funds raised in 5 short years and just raised over $70k at our last event at Road Atlanta a few weeks ago. Reach out if you are interested in supporting this awesome cause! Have a great week!

The racing for ALS thing is fantastic! I believe there was a autoholics show I went to in the Charlotte area a few years back that was associated with the group. 🍻

Mopar Monday Stats - July 17, 2023 - After a slowdown around the 4th of July, DDHC production seems to be back to "normal" at JNAP. A large majority of units being produced as of late are still dealer stock orders. Production totals are close to 1450 units produced with nearly 1380 shipped (my charted data lags of course). Base trim units are increasing and we have seen the first few Red Oxide builds roll off the line (one of which was a Premium Trim unit with a suede headliner, more on that later). I've attached a few decent pictures of Frostbite and Vapor Gray along with a picture of the Base Trim interior. Still no Night Moves DDHCs built. No official word on how long 2023 production will go, but I assume it will run until the end of the year, with little change for the Durango for 2024. The allocation list hasn't been updated since April 18, but it appears any dealership that places an order might get one built (over 400 units showing on Dodge.com currently).

Yeah, I agree. I think Frostbite looks good on the Durango. B5 Blue was a bit too bright for me, but I know many liked it. Reactor Blue is a unique color as well, but a bit too dark. I wish they would have done Indigo Blue as I think that would look really sharp.

Kind of like Patriot Blue from '03. I really liked Electric Blue from '08. I had trucks in both colors.

Just got confirmation on what I thought might happen. Dodge has added the suede headliner into the Premium Trim (where it should have been from the get-go) and they have also increased the price from $10,900 to $11,205. Not sure the exact cut-in date on the line but it was around July 11 for some builds.

My dealer called me and said they have a HC coming in (2 weeks) and it is a Night Moves version.
Sticker is around 109k and get this, the dealer tells me the best he can do is 12k over MSRP.
I found another one being built last night that is Night Moves. This one is going to Huffines in Texas but it is a Base Trim with Trailer Tow and the Black Package. Sticker is $98,785.

Im all the way in Louisiana and I got my DDHC Plus from Jeff Belzer's up north in Lakeville MN, never met one guy over there, did the deal over the phone and had it shipped for $1200 enclosed trailer. I got the car below MSRP ( $1700 instant rebate )! way better and cheaper if you would to do your local dealer who wants 10-20k over MSRP. they currently have 2 in stock, one Black and one gray!. talk to Brent if anyone is interested. I found that dealers who pay their sales reps commission are over charging, the salesman I delt with is down to earth and he is paid by volume so it doesn't matter compared to commission pay reps. he just needs to push a certain amount of cars out!

I think many of these dealers selling below MSRP are in states that have a low average income. NJ is stupid high income for even stupid jobs but I would suspect in Louisiana there are not many 100k jobs which translates to 175k in NJ

Or maybe people in Lousiana are smarter then us fools who want to spend over 100k on a Dodge.

#323 ·
I wonder how may more cars would have been sold during the pandemic is dealers contiued with normal pricing policies? I can easily see additional market adjustments turning many people away. Personally I will never buy a vehicle above MSRP and it better be damn special if I would even think about paying MSRP. Otherwise I am ok with tissue.

#324 ·
I have never paid MSRP before buying my 2023 DDSRT, but it was a battle to negotiate down from the $5K ADM. Some local dealers (DC and Northern VA) would not give up their ADM....because they didn't have to. And, after the '23 was delivered and I sold my 4 year old 2019 DDSRT (to another dealer) for 80% of what I paid for it, I figured that, given the local market conditions at the time, I did pretty well on the combined transactions.

#325 ·
Yeah, here in NJ the dealers are getting away with murder. Up charging (still) over MSRP and now giving peanuts for your trade since the used car market is dropping steadily. Dippping in on both ends, SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ROTFLMO
