2023 Dodge Durango Hellcat - A Last Hurrah?

Most of you are in one of the four Durango Hellcat groups on Facebook so this isn't new, but I wanted to start a thread to hopefully keep updated with any relevant information.

Let me add to the rumor mill a bit with a discovery over the weekend. While checking a VIN for a DDHC being parted out by Schram Auto Parts I noticed it was actually a 2023 model. Naturally, I dug a bit deeper and found at least 14 2023 Dodge Durango Hellcats that Dodge produced as "vehicle development pilots." Why would Dodge build pilot vehicles with 2023 VIN numbers? Was 2023 the original model year planned for the DDHC and Dodge pivoted and pulled it forward to 2021 and as such all other pilot vehicle VINs are 2021s as they were produced after the 2023s?
Who knows, but here is a little bit more about how these 2023 pilots were configured...
  • All of them list Rear Seat Reminder Alert as standard (new feature)
  • Half were White Knuckle while the other half were DB Black
  • All but one was built with Demonic Red Leather
  • The only option on the one with Black interior was the Lightweight Package
  • All of them had Blind Spot / Cross Path as standard (similar to 2022)
  • All but the one with zero options were built with sunroofs, roof rails, roof cross bars, cargo compartment shade, and the Trailer Tow IV group.
  • Some were built with Forged Carbon Fiber Interior Accents but not the rest of the Premium Interior Group features
  • All of them had a "Restricted Models/Options" line item
  • No differences listed for engine, transmission, driveline, etc. (same as 2021 build sheets)
  • These will not be saleable units as Dodge has several rounds of pre-production builds, with the last round usually having some saleable units closer to production (similar to the 2021 DDHC pre-production units that have been hitting the auto auction scene with 500XXX VINs).
I wouldn't get too excited about this discovery, but it may be another small hint of a last hurrah for the DDHC in 2023. I guess we will have to see what they announce in the middle of August when they talk more about future models.

Gotta say dodge annoys me with this for sure, it’s either a one year or it’s not. If you say it you’d damn well batter stand behind it and if you don’t pay up! Hard working People stretched to buy these cars expecting them to be rarities. Not everyone but some.
not to mention shit integrity is shit integrity.
I didn’t buy it cause it was the fastest because my model X Tesla plaid destroys it! Absolutely devastates it in the performance category I ran 10 flat with it at the track. I bought the Durango HC because it was classic, American muscle and it was - limited production one year only. If not for that last sentence I would NOT have paid that kind of money for it. Because let’s face it a 2 wheel drive HC is way more fun doing burnouts and donuts etc.

Of course those who didn’t jump in and buy will never get it. But the people who ponied up and got it done to be the ones who owned the one year only cars should be annoyed . And those who bought OTHER models because they thought they couldn’t get one should be even more annoyed!
It’s just bad business practice , deception. If someone lied like this to raise a stock price they’d be in class action law suits immediately and the SEC would be all over them. Why is this different? It’s not.
I was planning to buy a dodge electric when they came
Out also but I’m not interested now. Dodge lost a buyer. Integrity is everything

I'm going to see my dealer tomorrow as I have to get the Durango inspected, so will see if they know anything. I recently sold my sportscars, so I'm def looking to buy a DDHC if the wait time is not ridiculous otherwise plan B.

@Stonecoldtx I spoke to the General Manager at my preferred dealership today. Only thing he sees in the 2023 order portal is the Hornet. He will let me know when it goes live for the Durango and will send me an order guide if there is one.

2023 Durango Hellcat Pricing - Need one of the dealer folks on the site to confirm, but this seems to be the latest information. It looks like there will be 3 orderable trim levels and not sure if you can order a la carte or not. (Would assume you can order the Black Package, 3 season tires, 2nd row console, engine block heater and DVD)

Hellcat Base Price: $91,185 (an increase of $10,190!)
Hellcat Plus (Laguna leather, trailer tow, sunroof, adaptive & advanced safety features): $97,185
Hellcat Premium: (Plus pkg plus red seatbelts, leather wrapped IP, carbon fiber interior trim and HK audio): $102,085

If similar bundled trim levels were offered in 2021...
2021 Hellcat Plus: $87,475
2021 Hellcat Premium: $91,150

Latest date that was posted for the order board opening is October 24

No word on when the order board might open but I think we are getting close!
As I mentioned on one of your Facebook posts, if this will be the pricing, I'm out . . . I'll keep my '21 . . . it has less than 2500 miles on it anway :)

And getting screwed by Dodge!

@Thetruck454 that would be ideal.
@frictioncircle that's part of my dilemma. The opportunities I have to really get into the HC are limited. Heck, I've actually enjoyed my commute in my daughter's KIA. The weekends I know are a different story. But, again, that just means limited opps to really push the HC.

@CWGrizzwold Looks like you and I are thinking alike...lol
I did enjoy my 392, as well. But the reaction of the HC when you hit the pedal is something else. It closes gaps so quickly it still surprises me...lol
The interior on the HC makes it feel way above the SRT and I do enjoy being in it. Maybe I'm getting old and looking for more pampering...:(

Since 1975, when I bought my first car (a 64 Fairlane2dr sedan with a 289 2V and a C4 automatic), of the 43 cars, trucks and SUV's I've had, I have owned (or, co-owned) exactly 7 vehicles that came from the factory with something other than a V8 . . . three of fhose vehicles were driven exclusively by my wives, a fourth one was a 78 Malibu that came with a 200 c.i. V6, and I converted it to a 454 and I haven't owned anything except V8 vehicles since 1997. Of the other three vehicles, one I used for a daily commute to and from work of 60 miles each way, one I drove because I was too poor to own anything else, and the last one was just a really cheap car that a buddy offered to me for $300 that I only drove once.

The reason is simple--I cannot STAND the sound of any 4, 6, 10 or 12 cylinder vehicles in any configuration . . . not in an "I", not in a "V" . . . to me, their sound is ugly and grating . . . therefore, I would never even consider purchasing anything other than a V8 powered vehicle again--ever! Now matter how much power it makes . . .

Here is the latest 2023 Durango Hellcat information for Mopar Monday...
Order board opened last Friday (October 21) but only the SRT 392 was able to be ordered. SRT 392 pricing matched what I had so I am confident the DDHC pricing will hold. Not sure when DDHC orders will be open.
Only "Plus" or "Premium" trim levels can be ordered at the start. "Base" and possibly a la carte ordering may follow later.
"Plus" trim includes: sunroof, Laguna leather seats, Technology package (forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, lane departure warning and rainsense wipers), and the trailer tow package for $97,185.
"Premium" trim includes the "Plus" content and adds: red seatbelts, Premium Interior Package (hand wrapped instrument panel, carbon fiber accents), Harmon Kardon 19 speaker audio and possibly the 2nd row console for $102,085
There will be four carryover colors: DB Black, White Knuckle, Octane Red and Destroyer Gray.
There will be FIVE new colors and four of these are currently offered on the Jeep models if you want to see them in person. Night Moves = Midnight Sky, Vapor Gray = Baltic Gray, Red Oxide = Ember, Triple Nickel = Silver Zynith and Frostbite (currently a Charger/Challenger color).
Only DB Black and White Knuckle are no charge colors. All other colors will be $395.
Black Package (2021/2022 carryover) and Mopar Dual Stripes look to be the only options available at the start of ordering.
I assume blind spot and cross path detection will be standard (similar to 2022).
Destination charge is still $1595
I have been told that there will be a delay in 2023 due to parts availability. Not sure when 2023 Durango or DDHC production specifically will start.

Ugh, I started to call around to see and sure enough 392 are the highest trim able to be ordered right now.... btw, I am ONLY coming back to the Durango Hellcat platform, if they can come up with a proper blue... I hated my reactor blue, which is why I sold the car.... that said I was VERY hopeful the ForstBite would be better, but I just looked it up online for NON GLAMOR SHOTS (I dont need touched up photos, or filters, I want unfiltered REAL color presence photos, and I found these: Free Shipping to many states plus No Documentation Fees! | Steve White Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram FIAT

NOT sold on this color at all, does nothing for me. If it was ONE car poorly taken photos of, I could understand, but litereally all of them look boring in this color... am I wrong?

Its no B5 Blue or Indigo (I like both colors equally).... and DONT post glamor shots, someone on here (cough cough CWG has some that will make you think Reactor Blue is pretty) lol... I just look at this as another boring blue from Dodge...

I might not be coming back to the hellcat Durango after all.... :(

They way I read it is that all the early orders will essentially include Demonic Red Laguna leather seats because you have to order either "Plus" or "Premium" trim and "Plus" includes the Laguna leather seating and "Premium" includes "Plus" content. Only way to get the black Nappa leather seats with suede centers was to order a "Base" model. However, two guys already placed 2023 SRT 392 orders and posted their order sheets and both selected the "Premium" trim and one had Demonic Red and one had Black Nappa even though you are essentially paying for the Laguna leather. There was no price difference on the order sheets. I asked the two guys if they were able to choose interior seating color so we will see what they say.

Dodge finally published the 2023 Durango specifications which firms up some of the lingering questions we had about 2023 Durango options at launch...

  • Blind Spot / Cross Path is standard
  • SRT Hellcat is still being listed as 710 HP / 645 lb-ft even though there had been some posts it may come out with 717 HP (but the media site shows it as "estimated")
  • Black roof rails with integrated cross bars will NOT be offered on the SRT Hellcat (included with Plus/Premium on SRT 392)
  • Lightweight Performance Package (3rd row delete + 2nd row bench seat) returns as an option!
  • Black Package is UNCHANGED from 2021
  • Base SRT Hellcat wheel is the same as 2021
  • 2nd row console is standard with Plus/Premium trims
  • Demonic Red Laguna is standard on Plus/Premium trims but customer can down select to Black Nappa leather / suede as desired but will not receive $ credit
  • Embroidery / Embossing in seat backs will say "SRT" only for both SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat
  • "Plus" trim includes Sunroof, Laguna leather seating, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise, Advanced Brake Assist, Rainsense wipers, Lane Departure Warning and Trailer Tow Group IV
  • "Premium" trim includes "Plus trim content and adds red seatbelts, premium wrapped IP, forged carbon fiber inserts and Harmon Kardon 19 speaker audio
  • Dual Mopar stripes are available in same colors as 2021/2022
