Hi all, new member. Picked up a 2021 Durango SRT 2 weeks ago from a local gmc dealer. Clean carfax, no accidents, 1 other owner. Love it… but have an issue that no one, including mechanics, seem to understand.

My instrument panel is official SRT, but the software on it is R/T, meaning it’s running the wrong software. What this means is:

1) my speedometer on the left side acts as a tachometer. When I am parked and rev, it moves. It doesn’t tell me my speed

2) the main display has no tachometer… just the speedometer read out in either digital or analog

The car came from NJ, not California, so it’s unlikely it was “detuned” (like that poor kid with the Hyundai). Additionally the Uconnect displays SRT and all the drive modes, performance pages, etc. Plus the car really moves.

I’ve reached out to Mopar and they haven’t helped except telling me to take it to the dealer. The local dodge dealer has no idea what’s going on and wants to charge me 200/hr to investigate. The dealer that sold me the car has offered to take it back and try to resolve… but I would hate to lose it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or guesses as to what is going on and how to correct? I have videos I can post but not sure how to do that.

Thanks for any ideas

That's pretty wild...wonder if someone screwed up with some kinda tazer or pedal commander. I have the tazer and still haven't put it in for reasons like this...Did you n notice this during test drive?

This happened to another forum member who purchased their 2021 SRT brand new and it came with an R/T cluster.
It is not a software fix, you need to have a new SRT cluster installed. Dodge QC at it's best!

I does seem unlikely that the prior owner didn't notice this if it has had the wrong cluster from day one..

It's definitely an SRT cluster, but wrong firmware if I would guess. I can't say for sure, but the following is what I'd suspect. Much of the modern vehicles have become very similar to the way aircraft are designed and maintained, which is what I deal with. While there's overall software (which is primarily UConnect for driver interface on Dodge), each component with an interface has firmware to manage that interface. That's why if a cluster is moved between vehicles, the mileage that is on the cluster that was installed is retained within the cluster's computer components and why AlfaOBD, and of course Dodge interface tools, have the ability to reprogram that mileage reading to what that vehicle has and other settings such as calibration of the dials. I would guess that at some stage, someone booted the incorrect (R/T) firmware onto the cluster. It would make me concerned as to why someone was interfaced with the cluster, because some are doing it so they can reprogram the mileage (aka, rolling back the odometer) for resale. As you just got it used, and the cluster is physically right as it has the SRT speed and actual temp markings, but has firmware or software that's acting as an R/T and trying to display the tach instead of speed, that would be a fear of mine in your position. The vehicle's mileage is also retained elsewhere, can't recall if it's the PCM of where, that a dealer can pull up to validate the cluster's reading.

I first thought the same thing, but this isn’t an RT cluster, an RT cluster has a tachometer on the left. Mine has a speedometer which is unique to the SRT instrument panel.

This is interesting… made me google Tazer and saw a video about it on the SRT by MattySRT. I’m curious about a clip in it about editing the dash.

I suspect BCM configuration might be set incorrectly. There is a program called Alfaobd the can read your configuration for free (example of my GT attached), to change it you have to buy the full version ~$60. There are settings like "special package" (more than one) that might not be set correctly.

With alfa you can change it to SRT (usually best to have a copy but nit easy to get ahold of). Or take your readout of your BCM to the dealership and have them verify.

That is the SRT cluster... It has the speedo on the left, instead of a tach like the RT and lower models do....

FYI I have a similar issue, I emailed Alfaobd and they told me they programmed cant fix this. the dealer they blamed my issue on a tune and that caused the p1400 code, mine happen after the dealer installed a software recall update to fix the gas leveler not reading correctly and re-updated the uconnect software. Dealer did nothing but waste my time and blamed me for the code, said they didn't update anything, (its in the work sheet) and lately "we didn't look at the cluster when it came in so you probably came in like that". They gave me the car back and told me to go clear the code!? and come back... so after much looking and research I found a aftermarket dodge shop and they been looking at it and have calls out to some higher ups at dodge and I'm aspecting an answer this week ill let you know. FYI Dodge srt worthless also dodge cares should be dodge doesn't care.

If you have an unlocked PCM it will generate a P1400 code (this is for +2017 models) that also gets stored in the BCM. Tough to get rid of without flashing BCM and running a stock PCM and calibration.

Apparently HPTUNERS can clear the code if you flash the unlocked pcm. Read the Pcm/tcm together and manually select the tcm controller. But you need a pcm unlocked and the hptuners and a Hail Mary. $$$ hopefully this guy can fix this. Padge where you located?

What was your original issue?

@Padge Start with a full factory reboot of the Uconnect system through the display settings. This should reconfigure your entire system based upon your vehicles VIN and options. It takes awhile for the system to rebuild itself so don't freak out if when you restart the vehicle and your SRT pages and other things aren't quite right. Give it a few hours or a few drives and it will eventually rebuild everything correctly. I would start here and see if that toggles the center dash display to SRT instead of the R/T setting you are seeing currently. I have seen something similar happen after a dead battery.

Apparently I need the uconnect original file that the car came with that's where my guy is saying the issue is coming from... it's not on the dodge servers. Anyone have that file?

I can try that but I don't think it reverts the firmware for me. @Padge if you didn't update yours it could work.

I thought the UAS/UAQ radios don't have a "reset to factory" option like the RA4/RA3 radios do? Also it has no impact on firmware, it just does a hard reboot of the system which usually helps with radios that don't enter the sleep cycle.

I am in PA north of Philly. A lot of this is over my head being new to the Dodge scene, but I confirmed my PCM has the same vin as my car, so it isn’t a replacement.
I bought the car in early January and just didn’t realize the issue until shortly after. The dealer does seem intent on fixing or reversing the purchase if it can’t be fixed.
I have an appointment with a dodge dealer on Wednesday that will hopefully resolve this. I’ll update following.
