This is a repost from another thread, hopping that someone may be able to help.
Hello everyone, so I went to the dealer for a battery issue on my 2021 durango srt, I went to turn and the car lost power and basically shut down while driving. They first asked me if I had a tune on your PCM since the system accused the code P1400, I said no but anyway isn't the pcm locked? Yea but people find a way, I'm like the pcm in the car right now has no tune right, but if it did what does this have to do with the battery? Well nothing, so ok then, I guess you trying to mention this for the potential battery warranty claim i'm about to put in for ? Anyway it was a ground wire issue, and since you where here we had a recall for your car so we installed the latest Uconnect software, i'm like I did that already I got the usb key in the mail, well it didn't take it I guess, i'm like ok then. Anyway I get in my car and nothing is the same I assumed all got reset I guess? Well little did I know that they I guess they installed the r/t update and now I'm on the R/T dashboard and missing stuff on my dash, called and gone for the day! Called next day saying i'm on my way, and the answer was we too busy can you come tomorrow, ok then. So today I went in, bottom line they can't reflash it, because I have a code for a tuned pcm that is not tuned, I explained that some of my security features that were available on my SRT are not available and I don't feel safe driving it. The manager comes by and tries to speak to me like I'm ignorant and no nothing about cars of software or electronics," someone did something the exhaust you have is after market and they need to tune the pc to make it work and bla bla bla...Well there goes the neighborhood, im like what did you say??? first my exhaust is certified by Mopar it's a gthaus meisterschaft and there's no need to do any software updates or tunes, so no warranty voids you should know that sir, second you claim that you cant refresh the car because the code P1400 is present correct? The code happened at 5000 miles I have 19000 miles so unless in the last 2 days I did 14000 miles you couldn't have been able to flash it 2 days ago right? Is the PCM flashed? NO is the PCM the original one from when I got the car? Yes, so wtf are you talking about??? Well you have to call dodge and explain, I am at dodge right now and how am I going to explain something that doesn't make sense, what next explain flat earth? What are they going to do that you cant? can you clear the code? No. So how can THEY clear it?? You fuck up my car and i'm responsible to find a fix for it???
Anyway no idea if someone dealt with this or what to do here? Is there a way to reset the cluster?

I don't know why everyone doubts that he did not put a tune in it. It's unlikely that anyone would by 5000 miles and besides, he says he didn't do it.

Interesting story at my side:
  • Cluster has R/T in the menu instead of SRT,
  • Cluster speed arrow show rpm instead of speed
  • Check engine light still on but no errors in modules/blocks
  • Car configuration putting to default did not help
  • Cluster update did not help...
Need other SRT Cluster....?

Dealer cant fix it, they told me for me to figure out how to clear the p1400 code. Now I have the car at a local Dodge guru shop and he is trying to fix it. He thinks since my car shorted (original issue I went in for, loose battery cable) it might have damaged the chip somehow, he claims the code has nothing to do with. We spoke today and he might have it today or tomorrow, ill let you know what he did.

p1400 is not related at all. Period.
And the cause of my problem was very similar - dying battery for a long time.
I as well think that its cluster chip related as it does not accept update writing.
However, its still should be Dodge responsibility while loose battery cable (or dying battery) should not damage anything.

dying battery was my issue also, a battery cable was loose and was draining it, also check the engine for any melted wires that might be touching the metal.
So my kid said this is from the uconnect update the dealer did over my update, he needs the original file to reflash it, he is waiting for dodge to respond. Anyone have one out there by any chance?

Hello. I also have a Destroyer 2021 with R/T software on my SRT cluster. I purchased the car used a few weeks ago and realized the issue when I searched thru settings for a Tachometer and realized my analog speedometer on the left was actually showing RPMs not MPH.

I am new to dodge, so I don’t know much but I confirmed the PCM vin matches the vehicles and there doesn’t appear to be any tuner (Tazer, etc) on the car.

Fortunately the selling dealer is willing to fix this or reverse my purchase. Frustrated for sure… I have an appointment at Dodge this coming week to hopefully resolve. Will report back.

Sorry to read about your 1st experience with Dodge. I hope your dealer can get it sorted for you. Is it a Dodge dealer? If so they may just get it done cause they will not want to reverse the sale so you have a fighting chance :D

I think we all 3 are not the first owners, but that does not make any difference - e.g. for me authorized dealer confirmed that my SRT is clean from any modifications.

And i had the issue before "IPC flash is legit for incorrect fuel levels", so that flash does not screw up in theory.
Dealer tried update with that flash, ran the procedure, saw it was complete, but when connecting next time to the car he saw that its again can be updated by same flash, therefore something is not going through. There is where idea about ruined cluster firmware/chip memory came up.

So @Vztech, you are clairvoyant and can do remote lie detector tests?

Think its 4 people now. My was new and this is what happened to my the car, was driving it went off, shut down while driving, and it was because of a loose battery wire according to the dealer. They did the IPC flash for incorrect fuel levels and "updated" the Uconnect to the version I already had and BOOM R/T cluster.
Vztech when is your lease up?
As mentioned before it will come back over a few days as the radio communicates with all the modules in the car.
This is going on since November 8th and nothing came back for me. Maybe the clairvoyant above can help us and tell us how to fix it...?

A dealership that has a guy that is handy with the starlinkntool should be able to put this back right. It may require a new engine controller and Body controller.

On the Jeeps that I tune. I can use Alpha OBDII to turn on quite a few features from various other models.

Sometimes I end up having to to do a full rewrite of rhe engine and transmission ECM to reset the key onsecurity code communication. This resets the code to some common out of the factory code, which is one way these get stolen by the way.

At any rate under warranty, this should be completely rectifiable, and even know they see a P1400, there is another tattletale that should show how many times the Engine controller has been reflashed. They all should ve accountable.in Starlink. The P1400 code is really a poor design that triggers the uninitiated.

It seems you expect a dealer can really do this?

Unfortunately the "we did nothing to cause this, whatever is in the work order is a misprint we didn't do it because of the code and your mopar certified exhaust needs a tune so tell the installer to clear the code and remove the tune we cant find of prove that you have" talk from the dealer after 3 weeks of having my car doesn't inspire much confidence. Then the threat to void my warranty and Dodge srt telling me well the dealer said what they said and there's nothing we can do about it because we don't know about cars so we have to believe the dealer!? oh and the Merick service director telling me that I brought the car in like that "we didn't look at the dash so it was probably like that. its like going for an routine operation wake up and realize you missing a kidney and they go well maybe you came in without one and now you blaming us... this is so ridiculous that this people deserve some time of lawsuit to restructure the way they do business.

Unfortunately if you tune (pcm swap to tuned one) and get a warranty flag it gives the dealership a bit of a get out of jail free card on electronics and powertrain (sytems impacted by tunes) when it comes to anything covered by the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act.

Once you are flagged Stellantis and every dealership knows this so you're fighting a way uphill battle.

You're not only going to face this relatively minor (non driveability related) issue possibly not getting resolved but you are getting a preview to how any more significant issues down the road will be handled.

You're likely much better off going to independent shops that specialize in mopar at this point since its not a warranty issue (at least they don't feel it is).

I don't really understand why discussion comes back to "tune/not tune" and "tune fault/not tune fault"...
We have 3 examples already of this. Author had battery wire loose issue what can cause this. My car was with dead battery for a long time, then multiple times was started with low battery using booster. Looks similar causes.
Of course maybe some wrong order of updates messed it up, but unlikely...
