All 2018 Durango's that have the Hemi come with the 8 speed auto transmission standard. I just read through the owner's manual and it does not state anything about 6 speeds only when using the manual mode. Maybe someone will chime in on that one.

 

Sounds like you have a problem. All 2018’s are 8 speeds. 7 and 8th are OD gears.

Agreed sounds like a problem, as everyone said, all come with the 8 speed transmission. Hopefully it is just a computer related thing they can fix and you'll be on your way again.

Thanks guys for the response-Checked again today on the way to work..No luck manually using paddles to get the dash to show 7 or 8 gears. Now that I look back-last week, it explains the low gas mileage I had and the higher than normal transmission temps I saw while towing. Engine was normal-but on one uphil, I saw 253 for transmission. Figured it was just the new trailer and the long uphill-but I bet it is an issue internally. Oil stayed a normal 190, and no check engine light came on. I will keep you all posted.

 

Interesting on the Dodge build website it shows all 18's came with 6 speeds, the SRT is the only version that shows the 8 speed trans !
My build sheet says 8 spd tho, guess I need to double check it tomorrow myself !

 

I just looked on the site and shows only 8 speeds available. 253 is high for trans temp

It’s not a problem. You have to be going above a certain speed to manually shift into higher gears. Get on the highway and slap the paddles. At 75mph, it’ll go into 8th.

If you ARE at highway speeds, and it won’t go above 6th then something is definitely wrong.

You could call it a 6 speed auto with 2 overdrive gears? I’ve seen some 4 speed autos referred to as a 3 speed with overdrive.

6-speed is a typo. Last year for a 6-speed in a Durango was 2013.

 

I was just pointing out that their own documentation is not consistent/accurate !

 

...and SRT uses the same trans as the R/T.
