Hey Everyone,

Have had my Durango for about 2 weeks now and just over 1,000 miles. Since I've had it, I noticed a slight road noise with the car, to what almost sounds like loud tires.

Now the noise is noticeable. There is clunking, but this noise is constant anywhere from 10MPH to 60MPH. Once on the highway it is hard to hear it. At low street speeds I can hear it.

The sound is like a constant drone and/or a humming noise. The other model I drove didn't sound like this.

Have not had time to bring it to the dealer but that's my next option.

Anyone else experience something like this?

Ive been noticing a drone from mine as well which is a 2016 RT, I did not notice it before I changed my wheels however which was around 300 miles. I only hear it when on the highway like 55-85 or at least its loudest then, might still be around 45 too and I just do not notice as much. It sounds to me it is coming from the front wheels, it is certainly a drone, almost like your ears are ringing, wouldn't really call it humming, maybe high pitch humming. I only noticed it after I put on my aftermarket 22in wheels and Brembo Brakes though. I am adding spacers tomorrow and hope that fixes it, the wheel is litterally a piece of paper away from the caliper so I am hoping that is where my drone is coming from. The spacers are only 2mm so like 1/8th of an inch so will give me just enough to clear the caliper a little better but not be noticable otherwise. Will report back if that helps my problem. If yours is stock however I would certainly bring it right in to the dealer.

What is your tire pressure? I reduced mine to 37 psi from the 44 that the dealership sent it out the door with. I do get some drone, however it may be the cylinder deactivation......

Tire pressure is right around 40-41 in all tires as the dealer originally gave me.

The noise is constant like a high pitched humming. Starts after 15MPH and continues to higher speeds.

Going to try and take it in. Also noticed the ride is bumpier and every time I hit a bump I can hear a thud or clunk from the suspension. During the test drive which was a couple of miles and not the best roads, we didn't hear any of these noises.

I put on the wheel spacers I got which give plenty of clearance between the brakes and I am still noticing the sound but have a feeling if I bring it to the dealer they will just blame my Brembo brakes and the 22inch wheels. I too have my PSI around 38 I believe which is slightly higher than the 36psi as listed on the door sill but have never had a problem with any other car running similar set ups. I normally go up 2 inches on wheel size which ends up with a 40 series sidewall and a few psi higher and have never noticed problems like this. Especially since I have run 225/40 tires compared to these which are 285/40 so there is much more sidewall on them, not like I am running 24s with a 30 sidewall or anything crazy. Please post after you bring it to the dealer, I would love to hear what they say.

So, took the car to the dealer.

Basically, they said it is road noise from the tires since they are low-profile due to having an R/T.

Some roads, the noise is louder or quieter. My only option is to leave the car for them to drive more and diagnose, which, I don't want to have happen. They heard the noise but again, it is "normal". Other than that, buy bigger tires is more or less what they were saying.

Looks like I will be living with the noise until I decide what to do.

Where is the noise coming from? If the clunking is in the rear it's probably due to the load leveling shocks. There are a tons of post of guys on here getting them replaced numerous times.

Which tires did yours come with. The regular Goodyear's are decently quiet when new. But I know some have Bridgestone or even kuhmo tires (which I've had nothing but issues with on past vehicles).

Isolate the noise have someone else drive while you ride in the back and passenger seat and see if you can locate it.

Also drive yours and ask to drive another on the lot with a service manager. If the other one doesn't do it then yell them to find it and fix it.

The noise seems as though it comes from the front of the car. When the service tech drove the car with me in it, they heard it loud and clear and I heard it from the passenger seat just as much from the driver side.

The tires are Bridgestone Ecopia H/L 422 Plus.

We drove one other model and didn't hear the same noise.

Now, if it rains and the road is rough, the noise is even greater. Constant humming/high pitched humming and when you hit bumps and what not the "clunk" is almost like bouncing noise in a weird way. Like a ping, if you will.

If it's an actual ping when you hit an imperfection it's probably the tire (think over inflated basketball or dodge ball being bounced sound).

Have them grab tires off a non r/t and or one with good years (rallye's have the same rim and tire size but usually have Goodyear forteras) . And swap them out for a 5 mile test (the wear won't be noticeable to the new tires). If it fixes it ask for a tire swap. The good years are considerably cheaper (~$75/tire).

What? That doesn’t make sense. The R/T has the same tire size as any other 20” wheel equipped Durango (minus SRT)

Yes I agree. But this is what they stated in regards to the noise.

I'd bet one of your paychecks that it's your tires. I put a set of Firehawks on my Altima and holy sheet were those suckers annoyingly loud at low speeds. I originally thought that the noise were my brakes and rotors going bad. I hated slowing down at traffic lights and turning corners and never got used to the noise. Luckily the Chevy dealership that put them on took it for a test drive and said they'd put on another brand of tire at no cost.
