I took my vehicle to the dealership back in October, October 10th to be exact because the all-wheel drive would not shift out of low. My vehicle sat at the dealership until November 18th for them just to charge me a diagnostic fee and tell me there's nothing wrong with my vehicle. When I'm headed home the same all-wheel drive service light comes on briefly. Now I notice a hard shift going into drive from park, drive to reverse, well as a clicking sound when changing between gears for about 3 to 5 seconds. Sometimes reverse doesn't engage from drive so I have to put it in park then in reverse. What could possibly be the issue that these "professionals" aren't finding.

How many miles? Could need new trans fluid and some dealers won't touch that from what I've read. It is not life time fluid and breaks down over time. At 73000 mine was clunking on low speed downshifts. I did the fluid change and it went away. I also know what happens when there's not enough fluid, it can go into limp mode on occasion and will shift really inconsistently.

It has about 85k miles. I'll check the trans fluid. Hopefully that's the issue. My AWD service light came back on about 10mi from the dealer and I didn't want to bring it back for it to sit another month. I am going to assume that I am not going to be lucky enough for the transmission to have a drain plug. I can do a few things but I'm definitely not master mechanic lol.

It's not a simple process unfortunately. The 8 speed doesn't have a dip stick. Here's a very detailed write up on the process:
