You need to keep an eye on Ebay if your really wanting like you said... I have seen a couple OEM sets for a little under 1K for the pair. You have to jump on them when you see them because they Go Fast...Good Luck!!!!

 

But would the dealership be able to activate them since they weren't standard on the car? I saw some on ebay a few weeks ago, but decided against it because I'd hate to spend the money only to have them not be activated due to some other issue.

 

I still do not understand why this could not be offered as a safety package where they bundle the DRL and the turn markers on the side mirrors. People would buy it.

I honestly don't recall ever reading that the sxt plus package was coming with DRL. then again I don't care for them. Yes they look nice but i'd rather spend my money on something better like a CAI or exhaust system.

 

The only place I saw it stated was on the allpar site where it said adding the rallye package included them.

Seems like it would be more of a hassle for a manufacturer not have it on one trim level when all the others do.

 

That's what I was thinking, even the JGC has DRLs. Granted with the trim level the DRLs are different...base models are like pilot lights, where higher end ones have the DRLs that go all the way around head light.

When I bought my Durango (2014), the dealer told me the headlight lense can be replaced should it ever break due to a rock etc hitting it. This was apparently something he was using as a selling point, but I didn't think much about it at the time. Now I'm wondering if there is any truth to that? If that lense can be removed, the adding an aftermarked LED strip to these would be fairly easy.

Anyone know if there is any truth to the lense being replaceable and coming off easily? I haven't tried looking as I just now remembered and thought of this.

Thats what I thought. He said he had a rock go through the light on his new ram, and they replaced the lense and that the dirango had the same kind of headlights. In the back of my mind if figured he was full of crap, but wasn't sure. or that vehichle really is different, either way, doesnt help us.

Well, if you look at the link, you'll see that you have to connect a wire to each side blinker, and also a wire to the headlights, so they can go off whenever you put any side blinker or turn on the headlights. I already bought one, so when arrives I'll update how it works.

Added LED DRL

I used an existing fuse (f95) this the camera parking assist fuse. This doesn't turn off with the blinker, but the LEDs are only on with the durnago is in the "run" mode. I don't think that they interfere with the blinkers, they are not as bright at the factory ones.

I used the Alpena 77015 White 28'' LED Litz Strip from amazon, I think they are the same ones that was at the beginning of this post.

When I installed them, I attached them to the bottom of the headlight assembly. When I removed the bumper, I cut down the black plastic ribs under the headlight assembly to get just a little more room between the bumper and the headlight. The leds are a bit fragile so don't try the jam the bumper back on.

I went to my dodge dealership today and had the drl feature activated in my 2015 Durango sxt. the manager had to contact dodge to have the drl feature added to my vin number and when that was done the tech activated the feature. the tech stated that depending on the models like the r/t and sxt rallye you do not have to move around the pins in the headlight harness. in my sxt the headlights were in the drl function then he moved two pins around and now the led strips are the drls. you would have to get a set of headlights that have the led strips. I will post pics soon.:-D. the tech stated all 2014-present Durango come pre wired to run drls once activated.

Hey there! Probably a dumb question, but would be able to physically tell if the headlights does have the led strips or you'd have to go to the dealership and have them check? I have a '14 sxt.

thanks for responding! It's definitely hard to tell since I haven't looked at both side by side to know the difference so I went ahead and pulled the build sheet off of dodge website for my VIN and found that I definitely don't have the LED strip. Bummer LOL.

 

Yeah its a bummer, but you could be worse off....... and have a minivan instead of a Durango.

it was free to activate the drls because I was still under the factory warranty. my vehicle has less than 36k on it plus the folks at the dealership were kooll

 

The headlights do not have the drls in them you would have to get the higher trim headlights from limited, rt and higher

 

I have a 2015 Durango SXT and will be blacking out the chrome and painting the unpainted bumper trimming. I also got the rallye edition wheels and tires for 700 from someone who removed his rallye wheels and added rims

So after going to dealer and having installed thr headlights that have the led strips. They were able to make them work as drl?
I just installed rt headlights on my 2014 durango sxt the led strips come on when lights are on but not very bright and they flicker.

I bought my set off a local ebay seller. The lights are actually in good shape. To be honest the headlight housing shouldnt matter if they have a chip or 2. There is a retainer that holds down the whole headlight.

 

I did the LED strip light at Auto Zone on mine and it looks great. We got the 12” and they look nice. For now we wired them off the ignition but are going to look into the turn signal relay too. It was a 40 dollar Kit because we needed the black backing ones as my Durango is the maximum steel color, but a neat little upgrade... slid right in between the bumper and the light (used a squirt of armor all to make it go in easier!).
