2010 Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals

Ok, gang.

The 2009 get-together was really a good time, IMHO, so time to think about 2010.

I'll fill in some of what I learned about the "Chryslers at Carlisle" adventure my first time in 2009.

"Showfield parking":
This is the deal. What you're doing here's actually entering in the show. You have to park with your "class" (because, as entrants, you get 'judged' with your class) but you don't have to stay with your vehicle. The upside is that, as a showfield entrant, you're actually parked on the grounds (for the whole event) and not in one of the outlying parking lots.

"Classes" and "Groups":
I'd guess there are about five "Groups", each consisting of some dozens of "Classes." The groups and classes are kinda setup in terms of 'classicalness' in that, for example, there are e-body classes for every year (and actually some subdivisions within each) but there's only one "Durango/Aspen" class. The groups are pretty much broad chunks of classes that are pretty distinct, though the "purple" class is kinda "everything else." There are two significant things about 'Groups': each group parks together, and each group can only vote for others in their group.

"Carlisle":
What you see is a pretty large area, some of it flat, some of it a stage area, and some of it up in the hills of the back 40. Much of the area is the "showfield" where people display their vehicles (or, um, are just parked so they can hang with the DOC.) There are buildings that have special invitational exhibits (that's where the '56 custom Royal Lancer, much like the '55 custom Royal Lancer that my parents went on their honeymoon in, was displayed.) And lots of vendors selling everything from T-shirts to custom radiators. And the 'flea market', where scores of vendors sell pretty much anything Mopar. I assume where each class lands changes every year, but my guess is that the 'Durango' class will be fairly close to where it was in 09. The bad news is that it's a little uphill from the flats where the 'classic' Mopars live, but the good news is that it's well worth the trip up to the tent.

"The 'DOC tent'":
Some shade, some chairs, some music of various sorts, some ass-bustin, some serious conversation, some simple food (thanks for the grill Dwayne!), some refreshments? Kind of a potluck food-and-drink wise with everybody bringing something. And just a place to call home in this big carnival, for DOC members and nonmembers alike.

"Surviviors":
The display of pretty-much-unrestored Mopars of yesteryear. This is a great place for folks of different generations to just stroll through.

Make it an event?

We're in, making hotel reservations now for Mechanicsburg. Just to have the options, we're making them for THU-FRI and SAT night. Depending on my work schedule, it might only be FRI and SAT night but I'd like to hang out for the weekend and get my money's worth. Plan is to arrive mid-late afternoon Thursday, be on the showfield for FRI-SAT-SUN and heading out after the show Sunday afternoon.

Not sure what your other NON D.O.C affiliations are, but if any members are COSTCO members we got a pretty good deal of about $80 a night at the Best Western in Mechanicsburg? that was online and yesterday. I'm sure they'll go up but it might be a good place to try. You didn't get that from me.

Re: The previous post, #4 and #11 are the same person, my alter ego.

I travel a lot. The lower end chain quality will vary location to location. Best Western is one. I've been in some very nice BWs and some not so nice ones. I learned my lesson after many years and now I'm a Marriott man (Marriott, JW Marriott, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence, Spring Hill, Town Place, Fairfield.) I've never stayed at a "bad" Marriott property. Even the lower end of their line has always been decent. Hilton properties are also usually good.

I agree Neil, they're all usually very clean and well kept.

I'll probably miss this year as it coincides with a cross country trip and wedding for a family member.

Bummer.
Tell relatives and friends that this is unacceptable and won't be tolerated.
You must attend! LOL

Any hotel you stay at can be hit or miss but, for only three nights, I think I can handle it. Remember we'll be sunning ourselves during the day and having a few "ADULT BEVERAGES at night. We definitely need to have a dinner night for just the group (I suppose we can allow the ASPEN owners in if there are any.) While we're on the subject of hotels, if any of you get up to the Minneapolis area, I recommend Hyatt Place at Bloomington. 5 mins from Mall of America, about 5-7 mins to Minneapolis International Airport, shuttle service to each, 42' plasma TVs and continental breakfast. If the company is picking up the tab, of course I recommend the best rate otherwise, whatever the rate you can get. Their rooms also have component connections so you can bring your own DVD player and use their TV as the monitor.

I'm getting off track but remember, it'll be long days in the sun and we'll probably be pretty beat after that, so pretty much any room with TV, reasonable bed and WiFi should about do it for me.

As for Skitzo and the wedding, last year they had a wedding at Carlisle and I'm sure they can do it again. LOL
Indy, Fastman, Dan, Sharp, your tuxedo shirts please? Indy leave the pimp-hat in the D.

I'm down with some supplies for sustenance, I plan on bringing my 26 quart cooler so no problem with ice, water, sodas and a limited selection of adult beverages if able and everyone has a designated driver.

How about we add a meal list for those going or planning on going? I'll start. We can turn this into a cookout and car show? get two for the price of one.

1. MAGIC84/Steve Cannon Sodas, ice water, cooler, possibly secondary gazebo if I can borrow from work.

Prez, they already have that (well partly) it's called Carlisle Performance & Style lol Scions/Yotas, Lexus', Hondas as far as the eye can see. :p When I go, I'm probably one of about 8 dodges that show up; me, a couple Dakotas, 2 lowered Rams, and the rest Neons.

When is that?
Is that judged or peoples choice?

My car is bone stock except for the expertly installed cruise control module. I don't think "performance and style" is a good place for it.

It does have an artfully placed scrape on the passenger side front corner? perhaps it'd be better suited in a show for lawnmowers. After all, it does take the same oil filters as our Cub Cadet!

If I make it out to Carlisle this year, I'll most likely bring some baked goods.
