2010 Carlisle All-Chrysler Nationals

Ok, gang.

The 2009 get-together was really a good time, IMHO, so time to think about 2010.

I'll fill in some of what I learned about the "Chryslers at Carlisle" adventure my first time in 2009.

"Showfield parking":
This is the deal. What you're doing here's actually entering in the show. You have to park with your "class" (because, as entrants, you get 'judged' with your class) but you don't have to stay with your vehicle. The upside is that, as a showfield entrant, you're actually parked on the grounds (for the whole event) and not in one of the outlying parking lots.

"Classes" and "Groups":
I'd guess there are about five "Groups", each consisting of some dozens of "Classes." The groups and classes are kinda setup in terms of 'classicalness' in that, for example, there are e-body classes for every year (and actually some subdivisions within each) but there's only one "Durango/Aspen" class. The groups are pretty much broad chunks of classes that are pretty distinct, though the "purple" class is kinda "everything else." There are two significant things about 'Groups': each group parks together, and each group can only vote for others in their group.

"Carlisle":
What you see is a pretty large area, some of it flat, some of it a stage area, and some of it up in the hills of the back 40. Much of the area is the "showfield" where people display their vehicles (or, um, are just parked so they can hang with the DOC.) There are buildings that have special invitational exhibits (that's where the '56 custom Royal Lancer, much like the '55 custom Royal Lancer that my parents went on their honeymoon in, was displayed.) And lots of vendors selling everything from T-shirts to custom radiators. And the 'flea market', where scores of vendors sell pretty much anything Mopar. I assume where each class lands changes every year, but my guess is that the 'Durango' class will be fairly close to where it was in 09. The bad news is that it's a little uphill from the flats where the 'classic' Mopars live, but the good news is that it's well worth the trip up to the tent.

"The 'DOC tent'":
Some shade, some chairs, some music of various sorts, some ass-bustin, some serious conversation, some simple food (thanks for the grill Dwayne!), some refreshments? Kind of a potluck food-and-drink wise with everybody bringing something. And just a place to call home in this big carnival, for DOC members and nonmembers alike.

"Surviviors":
The display of pretty-much-unrestored Mopars of yesteryear. This is a great place for folks of different generations to just stroll through.

Make it an event?

If we were making the trip down to Carlisle, I could have purchased some real good all beef hot dogs for the charcoal grill. After our visit to the falls, we stopped at Ted's for a late lunch. GOOD :!:

Yep, two factors:
  1. Wife doesn't having much vacation time, hence the 22.5 hr drive after work Friday night
  2. In another ten days or so we travel to the Arrow Head Region of MN for the Thunderbirds show in Duluth and to see Angela's #1 son.

Seems things are a bit different this year. In any event, your Y-number doesn't likely give you a parking space but is more likely your entry number that's used to tally votes. I imagine you still "park with your class", but exactly which space is first-come-first-served or 'local agreement'.

But I guess we'll all find out in a couple days. :)

I'm Y437 with the Jeep, so it could indeed be the class numbering this year, tho that seems like a lot of classes.

UPDATE
Looks like it's not the class #: 2010 classes

Durangos are 239, I'm 237.

I just checked and I have Y429 as well so my guess is that's the group number.

game plan for me on Saturday. I should be coming out early AM and leaving later Sat night only staying for the day this time. If my AC issue which just occured today can get fixed by then. It just went out on me tonight after coming up from the shore in the afternoon. Heard a hissing sound when I got out of the car and now no ac. It was pumping nice and cold all weekend and today so hoping its a minor issue and can be fixed quickly.

I'm going to be washing my Durango up real good today for the show and decided to give the engine a good cleaning while I'm at it. I bought this engine grease cleaner stuff and the lady told me I need to make sure I cover all the sensors before spraying the engine compartment with water. Is this true? If so, where are they? I know I need to not spray the air intake directly, but that's about it.

#548 ·
There's nothing to really cover except for the air intake (I wash mine all the time with simple green.) The only thing I don't like using is a pressure washer. That's forced water into my distributor and connectors on another vehicle. With a garden hose, you should be fine.

Just make sure after washing it that you run it for a while which will generate some heat under the hood to dry everything nicely

Lauren got called in for work Saturday, so I'll be flying solo.

That probably also means no webcam feed, tho I'll bring a camcorder and get video up at night.
