Hello again guys, I got some great AC advice here before.

My current concern is starting up. I was always confident engine was strong because of quick starting, turn key and within a second the engine was running. Currently when engine is cold, like overnight, it takes maybe 5 to 6 seconds of starter motor to get engine running. It always starts though. Is there some sort of fuel injector protocol that is not working? Im not sure which way to attack this problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The protocol is called the fuel pump is probably weak. Try putting it in RUN for a few seconds before starting it. If that helps then the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

Angler:
Since you mention that colder temps may be part of the issue, have the battery load tested to rule out any issues there.
The test is free, and you'd probably not want to head into winter with a flaky battery.

Thanks Don. Battery seems fine, it cranks strong, but I’ll get it checked. Thanks for suggestion!

Hi Angler:
The pump and sender are part of the same assembly. Since the tank has to be dropped, it's wise to replace everything while you are in there. We recommend oem for fuel pumps if possible. In the event you can't find one, a brand name like NAPA, Delphi, etc are better choices than Airtex, etc.

Thank you Don.

i had the replacement pump put in by a very reasonable service garage. I bought the pump (Delphi) $175 and a new lock ring $45 which turned out to be needed. He only charged me $300. In addition to the symptoms I was experiencing, the pump was leaking gas. the mechanic said the pump sits in a little recess and the recess was full of gas. I’m so glad I got it fixed. Thanks guys!
