Rattle Noise - Possible Causes

Hello

I'm the owner of a 2007 Dodge Durango with the Hemi 5.9 litre engine. The vehicle has approximately 34,000 miles. I have noticed a rattling noise when the engine is started up and the engine is very cold. This is predominately in the morning. The rattling sound appears to be coming from the bottom of the vehicle. It happens as soon as I give it some gas to get going. As soon as the vehicle is warm (after a mile or so) , the rattling stops. I'm going to take it to the dealer this week but I'd like to have an idea as to possibilities as to what it could be. Of course it's still under warranty.

I just bought an 08 and I've noticed the same type of noise. Does yours only make the noise when you step on the gas? Mine does and as soon as I take my foot off the gas it stops.

Yes it happens when I step on the gas - never noticed it until recently

if it stops when it gets warm, my guess would be a loose exhaust manifold bolt? but it's hard to say without hearing it?

I don't think that's what it's. Mine sees to be making it in the right front. I have full-time 4 so I don't know if that has something to do with it. It's not very loud either.

I have issues on my 04 ram with vibrating power steering hoses primarily on initial take offs and once warm the vibration goes away. I doubt this is your issue, but throwing it out if mechanic's get stumped. About 200 04-07 ram's have this issue, which turned into a TSB.

Its an 07 with at least 2000 more miles left on the warranty. Simply go to the dealer for warranty service. Beats blind guessing anytime when it's a covered warranty issue.

When my CEL came on for my tranny I had them check this too but they couldn't find anything. Plus, by the time I got to the dealership the nose stopped?

Some of the early Hemi's had a rattle that turned out to be a valve noise - it disappeared when the engine warmed up and oil fully circulated. Thought it was fixed sometime in the 2005 MY, but can't say for sure.
At any rate, if that's the case, it's nothing to worry about.

I had a similar noise on an 04 Ram that I thought was a dry lifter before it pumped up. Turned out to be a cracked exhaust manifold that leaked and swelled shut when it got a little heat into it. Don't know if that's the case with yours but I agree?dump it in the dealer's lap and let us know what it turns out to be.

It's gonna be a situation that the service shop will have to leave it overnight. Atleast to try to catch it while it's cold.
(start story) I had a bad fuel pump on my dak, it'll work fine while it's cold and for a couple hours while running, but once it was hot, And shut the engine down and tried to start a half hour later, it wouldn't start. After dropping it off at the dealer, they found nothing wrong (cause everything was cold at there test time) Told them to run it, at idle for an hour and call me back, Well they called & said nothing was wrong, come and get it. I showed up, they couldn't get it to start. This was after 3 or 4 times of having it towed in to the dealer! (they must have thought I was lossing it! [sorry, end story])

If you have a second vehicle, you'll have to use it. If not or need 2 vehicles, I know my Dodge dealer has a loaner they let me use for free. And I believe all Dodge/ chrysler warantee's have that in there small print.
