hey guys,
I've been thinking of upgrading my headlight housing and figured while I'm at it I might as well upgrade to HIDs as well.
most of the HID conversion kits I've seen are low beam only. anyone found a H/L HID conversion kit?
and more importantly anyone installed one on their D?

thanks!

IIRC, Olk has the HID's installed. Don't know if they're H/L tho.

Ron

Just serched olk's posts and found no menion of HID's-sorry, I'm gettin old. :|

If you go with the BiXenon Kit just be aware that you'll probably have issues with your daytime running lights. Since your in BC I assume you have a Canadian D with DRL. Depending on what year your D is will determine on how easy it'll be to work around. On the later model Durango's, I think '01+ but I may be wrong, the DRL's are controlled by the Body Control Modual. It sends a 12volt sine wave signal to the high beam lights for the DRL's. This runs them in a kind of low power mode. The problem is when you connect a bixenon kit to them your lights will flicker because, at least in the kit I have, the sine wave signal causes the relay in the hid control modual to switch on and off very fast. This isn't good for your bulbs plus who wants to be driving around with flickering DRL's.

The work around that I have found is that you can wire a 3Henries Inductor in line with the high beam wire to your hid kit. This will filter the 12volt sine wave for the DRL's from the high beam wire but allow the 14volt DC signal for high beams through. The only problem with this method is that it disables your DRL's and a 3H inductor is pretty hard to find. At least I haven't been able to find one. You could tap into the high beam wire before the inductor and use it to switch on some other lights for DRL's but they'll also be on with the high beams. This is what I'll do if I can ever track down a 3H inductor.

As a temporary fix I have connected a 470uf 25v capacitor between ground and the high beam wire used to switch my HID kit. This capacitor stores enough energy to keep the relay in the HID control modual from switching off and on when the DRL's are on. The only drawback is the my DRL's are the high beams at full power. Nobody has flashed me for running my high beams in the daytime yet but its not an ideal solution.

I hope this makes some sense. There's very little information out there on this and I'm not an electronics engineer. In retrospect I should have just bought a low beam kit and then bought some driving lights to use as high beams/DRL's but I feel I'm close to finding an ideal solution with my BiXenon kit. Good luck with yours :)

It was Anton in Moscow who had a set.

I bought a set for my quad-beam Town & country (HB5), but it was very difficult to get the bulb properly aligned inside the reflector, the light oputput showed up like a banana in stead of a line on my garage door. Maybe the base was of bad quality?

Sng,

I've just completed my HID install on my D.

I'm in Coquitlam and work in Burnaby.

PM me and we can meet. I can show you what I have. There are lots of HID kits available in the Lower Mainland!

Hey XBXJUNKIE,

I was wanting to do the HID conversion on that kit you have do you still have the hi-low beam? I got on their website, looking for the one's with the digital ballasts and I'm lost I'm am not sure which one to get? is the a certain one that won't melt your headlights? I had those darn 1 piece headlights and and looking to get a 2 piece set of the euro crystal headlights, they have some with and without the reflector which would be the best to use? thanks for your help!! :?

hey green,

when you're on the site, go to the digital series section, where you can select the bulbs you want to run. I'm running
6000k bulbs, they're bright as hell with a slight blue hue to them. after you choose your bulb color, scroll down to the bottom
of screen where you you'll see a drop arrow, that's where you select the bulb for your truck. you'll see at the top of the
list 9007 bi-xenon. as far as housings go, I'm running a 2 pc set up, with clear corners and clear depo euro housings.
I've had this setup almost 2 years now with issues with melting, moisture, etc.

Thanks! is the kits that are made in japan any good? is the lower the kelvin the brighter bulbs, for instance are 6000k bulbs brighter than 10000k bulbs?

The higher the "kelvin" the "bluer" the light.

Note that blue is good for coolness, but not so good for vision? the eye has poor resolution in the blue end of the spectrum, and blue slight scatters back more off rain and fog? that's the reason for yellow fog lights?
