Welcome bassinrob, Hope you like the site, lots of info! Many people will have different reasons for pro's and cons. Pro for me is the 7 passengers sits quite comfortably and can hual quite large load, Con's, uses lots of gas, I think I'm in the 11-14MPG range, but then again I'm a lead foot. Although I have a early 99, I'm very happy with my find! I had very few things go wrong with her. Most things I fixed myself.

If you can live with the monthly gas bill, I think you'll be quite happy, as long as you find a taken care of "D".

Aloha BassinRob,

Welcome to our site. From what I have seen over the years here:

Our D's have a few inherent things that'll go wrong with them. This is in regards to the Gen1 that you have. I guess we're still learning about the Gen2s. It has more to do with which engine more then anything else. None that I have seen have been major problems and there are fixes to these little inconveniences that make them go away. I won't go into specifics right now, we can address those in the future as you have more questions.

So yes, the real issue as stated above is the gas mileage. That's an unfortunate one because that's one that's virtually impossible to fix. Other then that, it's really great vehicle and easy to work on when compared to what else is out there. It's also quite reliable so we don't have to be fixing them all the time.

Of course there are some of us who are working on them a lot because we like to tinker? That's a whole different story?

Welcome?Aloha,

I really like my 2000 Durango. I currently have 83,000 miles on it. Just had new upper and lower ball joints installed as the originals were shot. Front brake rotors are ever so slightly warped, but I have tons of original pad life left. I have new slotted rotors, pads and a rear disc brak conversion kit ordered and will report on that once it's installed. I have owned several vehicles, two Chevy Astro vans, Ford Econoline Van, Chevy S-10 ZR2 pickup, and numerous cars. The Durango is the best vehicle I have owned. I plan on running it until it's dead and then swapping out the motor for a 408. It's comfortable to drive, has decent power, tows well, carries a lot and it's proven reliable. My Camaro SS was more fun to drive :cheesy: but my wife got to the point that she'dn't ride with me anymore. I guess I had a little too much fun in the SS. Anyway, I highly recommend the Durango with the 5.9L engine. I get 15-16 mpg on long trips 70-75 mph and 12-13 around town and to and from work (normal driving.)

I'll have to add I?ll have to admit the D is the funniest vehicle I?ve ever owned.
Places visited: Fishing on the frozen Devil?s Lake North Dakota ?02, took fishing trip into Canada ?02, out west to Montana, east a couple times, once to Milwaukee and to Indianapolis, DRMR ?03 / Yellowstone, DSTIR ?03, and to Rocky Mountain Nat?l Park ?04, and a couple times to Wisconsin?s NW cabin country. And lots & lots for more fun places to explore. Don?t get 154K+ miles on the clock parked in the garage.

Buying 2000, 2001 Dodge Durango. Pros? Cons?

Thank you all for your input. I greatly appriciate you all sharing your experiences. I think I've found my new toy :) The "D".

Future owner of an awesome vehicle (Dodge Durango) :D

I've had mine for just over 2 years now. I LOVE it. There'll be some minor inconveniences with any vehicle you buy, but you get a great bunch of people when you buy a D. Here's a before and after picture of my '99 D, one is just after I bought it used with 27k on it and the other is last week. The possibilities are endless with these things? Let the Modding begin! :bugeyed:
