When I'm driving, all the sudden the D on the dash starts flashing as well as the one on the center console. It says on the dash shift into drive before driving, so I pull over shift into Park, shift back into drive and start driving and then vehicle starts to Buck like it's in the wrong gear. So, I pull over Park, shut the vehicle off wait a few minutes, start the vehicle and the problem is gone. It has only happened 4 to 5 times in the past 3 weeks. Any ideas as to what this could be? I only have 148,000 miles on my vehicle.

How stout are your batteries (if you have a V6)? Electrical gremlins like this can be caused by a weakened battery.

Hi eddie:
X 2 on what TFH said. Are the batteries in your '18 original? If so, have both tested and replace both if either come back less than 100% This should be done before you throw any other parts at it.

thank you for your reply no the batteries is not original they were both replaced at the dealership about 2 1/2 to 3 years ago but I think the original batteries only lasted about that long so it's possible the batteries are weak

update on my vehicle problem I went out and started my vehicle switch the instrument panel to read battery voltage it says 14 when I stepped on the brake the voltage drop to 12.3 with the AC running and automatic daytime running lights on when I let off the brake It quickly went back up to 14 is that a battery or an alternator or both or something completely different

The voltage will fluctuate with the given load? It should not drop that low though with the engine running. I'd get the batteries tested, then move onto the charging system if they come back ok.

Thank you DON FOX and TIN FOIL HAT for helping me try to figure out what's going on
I had the battery tested it tested good so I took the alternator out brought it to a place that rebuilds them and had it tested they said the alternator is charging good but the alternator clutch pulley was slipping and replaced it now my vehicles running at 14.2 and when I step on the brake it drops to 14.0
I don't know if this is going to fix my shifting problem or not only happens so little that it's hard to pinpoint what it could be

Alternator clutch pulley? You mean the belt tensioner?

no he said there's an alternator clutch pulley on the alternator where the belt goes he showed me on mine before he replaced it even when he stopped the alternator from turning the pulley still turned when he replaced it he couldn't turn the pulley anymore he told me these Chrysler alternators are notorious for having a bad clutch pulley he told me he keeps the clutch pulleys in stock because 99% of the Chrysler alternators that come in for repair all they need is a new clutch pulley

"Ah yes, the good old slipping alternator clutch trick". (It's more humorous if you read that in the voice of Maxwell Smart)! It's been a while since I lave dealt that that. So long, that I had forgotten about them.

The 4.6: engines in the interceptors had them, and they would fail now and then.
