Hi all,

Just noticed this and it has me worried. I remote started my 21' DDRT TNG, when I got in the truck about 10 mins later there was a strong rubber burning smell. The smell is coming from the vents with the heat on. Truck was parked outdoors and weather dropped about 40 degrees throughout the day since it was last started. Smell started going away when I began driving. While driving I made a big pull upto about 6krpm, after the pull the smell came back but only for a couple mins. Smell went away after driving "normally". When I parked the truck, I opened the hood to see if I can see something out of the ordinary but didn't find anything. While truck was idling the smell came back.

Thanks in advance!

Next time you start it, jump out and see if the odor is from your exhaust. The heater, if not set on recirculate, can pull odors into the cabin and that might be the source. There is often a residual odor of burning carbon, fuel, etc., that you will get when you come to a stop after a hard acceleration. This is a normal odor from flooring it. If you also smell it at startup then something's wrong.

Just ran the truck and put the heat on recirculation. No smell in the cabin. Didn't get a chance to check the exhaust smell

Another thing that you can quickly check... There was an issue reported in the past about one of the heater lines that runs behind the console, slightly above and to the center of the vehicle from the gas pedal, that would get hot enough to melt the back of the carpet that would sit on top of it. When I checked on my '16 there was a little bit of a melted spot but not too bad, ended up putting some pipe insulation around it and it has been good since '17. Worth a shot.

Currently having this same issue. What did you find out to be the problem?
