Durango Problems 2013

My 2013 has been doing a lot of wacky things. While driving, the wiper blades start going, the radio shuts off, the power steering goes out, it has died, the transmission gets stuck in gear, RPMs stuck at 3-4, among other things. I took it to Advanced Auto and it was showing 15 different codes. Is this a battery/alternator issue, electronic control module problem or anything else. I was thinking it has to be a main electrical component problem since it is doing all kinds of different things. Any ideas or suggestions will help.

Welcome to the forum. First off, I would have the battery load tested. 2nd, look at the battery voltage with the engine, off and then on. Need to be sure that the alternator is up to snuff. Along the way, make sure all battery/alternator connections are clean and tight.

There have also been few cases of the electro hydraulic power steering system going wacky, and having such electrical issues as a side effect. Hopefully that is not the issue, as the remedy can be pricey.

Thanks Don. I did a simple battery check at home with a multimeter. With engine off it was around 12.6 and when engine was running it was around 14.4... which should tell me battery is good and alternator is charging properly when running, if I’m not mistaken.

Hi,
quick:
  • What Engine you got?
  • What are the Fault codes?
  • When do the "whacky" occur (all the same time?, When colt?, etc. )

rgdx.....
RGDX - I have the 3.8L V6 RWD model. The stuff all happens at completely random times and conditions, all at once.
Here are the fault codes:

P0456 - small leak in EVAP emissions

U1412 - implausible vehicle speed signal

P0501 - speed sensor voltage unstable

P0128 - coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temp

U0416 - invalid data received from dynamics control module

P0563 - system voltage high

U140A/B/C - implausible wheel speed signals

B210E - PCM reads Battery voltage high

B1B55 - 1st pass seat belt circuit high

B1C2E - occupant restraint controller short

Those two tests are promising, but you need to have it load tested to make sure. If the battery is not up so snuff as it rolls down the road as the electrical load swings up and down, you can expect the crazy electrical issues you are seeing.
Was your Durango part of the large alternator recall, and if so was the updated alternator installed?

I see there are a number of codes for either high or low voltage. The alternator output is controlled by the PCM. If it has gone south, as long as you are under 80K, the fix will be gratis as the PCM has an 8 year 80K warranty.

Pull your center console controls out and look for a loose connection or bad wire.
