As I speculated on a different thread, the new Durango stays at Jefferson Avenue. Timing isn't exactly clear, but sometime in mid to late 2027 (2028 MY) is probably close. According to plant employees on social media, the new Durango will be on the D6U (WL) platform, also as earlier predicted.

Since the current WL is only available with the Pentastar V6, it's a pretty safe bet that the Hurricanes will migrate to the JGC and new Durango when it begins production.

Will the current WD get the Hurricane or Pentastar-only in the interim? While there were plans to integrate the Hurricane into the WD, I think odds of that are now slim. I think the last year or so of the WD going V6-only. Here's why: using the Hurricane in the WD would be quite an investment for a car on borrowed time. Emissions and crash testing, not to mention reengineering the engine bay and harness to accommodate them, would be very expensive.
With regard to the WD hemi making it much past, let's say mid-2026: V8 sales are pretty slow, and new tariffs won't help. The need for field service replacement assemblies for the 5.7 and HC engines, though, are gradually eating up remaining new engine inventories. The HD 6.4 made at Saltillo North is not going to Dundee (Just the 1.4), so once Saltillo runs out of new 5.7 and HC hemi engines, that's it.

Overall, I think it's great the Jefferson Avenue is getting the new Durango, it's going on a solid platform, and with the Hurricanes, they'll have plenty of snort.

As a current Durango Hellcat owner ('23), I am keen to hear of news of the WD Durango replacement in ? '27/28, and engine options. What with the Stellantis/Tavares fiasco and Kuniskis coming back and bringing back the Hemi, I wonder if/when they'll make a new Durango HC? I predicted that the car manufacturing pendulum would swing from the EV push back to more ICE engines since government mandates to outlaw ICE engines won't make buyers prefer EV's, only car manufacturers making EV's appealing to buyers can do that.

Well, since that was posted, the future of the Durango seems to have evaporated. Most of this is Stellantis playing games with future product announcements. There is no longer any confirmation from either the Detroit or Windsor auto workers as to which plant gets the Durango, which architecture it will use, or whether or not there will even be a new Durango. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to put a Durango grille and partially functional taillights on the 3-row WK and call it good, but we're talking about Stellantis here.

On the powertrain side, the key point is that although Kuniskis has made noise about the hemi returning, it's still just speculation. Kuniskis may be in charge of Ram pickups, but any authorization to produce a given powertrain would come from well above him, which would also have no bearing on Dodge or Chrysler anyway.
The hemi was produced at Saltillo, MX, and some of the tooling for them is in use for the Hurricane Six; the remaining tooling was scrapped. The UAW has made no announcement that a V8 is in production (or will be) at Dundee, which was the latest plant rumored for an assembly location. In fact, the Dundee UAW local did just recently announce that they're looking for more work there.
There is currently a rumor floating around that Ram is testing a 5.7 engine in a new 1500 pickup, but the credibility of that youtuber is dubious at best, and even if true, it's not a confirmation of anything. Retooling Dundee to add a V8 is expensive. Reengineering the 1500 to accomodate a V8 is expensive. Emissions testing a V8 for the 1500 is expensive..Crash testing a V8 in the 1500.is expensive. All of that has to be done before production of any V8, in any model, could begin. It's a lot of money to appease a minority of enthusiasts who mostly are interested in the sound of the engine. The 1500 pickups have the sales volume to justify that kind of investment, but nothing else does.
