As I speculated on a different thread, the new Durango stays at Jefferson Avenue. Timing isn't exactly clear, but sometime in mid to late 2027 (2028 MY) is probably close. According to plant employees on social media, the new Durango will be on the D6U (WL) platform, also as earlier predicted.
Since the current WL is only available with the Pentastar V6, it's a pretty safe bet that the Hurricanes will migrate to the JGC and new Durango when it begins production.
Will the current WD get the Hurricane or Pentastar-only in the interim? While there were plans to integrate the Hurricane into the WD, I think odds of that are now slim. I think the last year or so of the WD going V6-only. Here's why: using the Hurricane in the WD would be quite an investment for a car on borrowed time. Emissions and crash testing, not to mention reengineering the engine bay and harness to accommodate them, would be very expensive.
With regard to the WD hemi making it much past, let's say mid-2026: V8 sales are pretty slow, and new tariffs won't help. The need for field service replacement assemblies for the 5.7 and HC engines, though, are gradually eating up remaining new engine inventories. The HD 6.4 made at Saltillo North is not going to Dundee (Just the 1.4), so once Saltillo runs out of new 5.7 and HC hemi engines, that's it.
Overall, I think it's great the Jefferson Avenue is getting the new Durango, it's going on a solid platform, and with the Hurricanes, they'll have plenty of snort.
