TnG driver side DRL out

Hello, have a 2021 Durango TnG owned and babied since new.

Has 62661 trouble free miles (except the "uconnect requires service" popup thats been there since new more or less).

Noticed however yesterday that the driver side daytime running light led strip is out on the head light. I will have to get this addressed.

My understanding is that the whole light assembly needs to be replaced. Is this something @DodgeCares could help with?

Any input appreciated

Thanks Richard

@DodgeCares has not helped with anything they will just forward you to the customer service that will also do nothing. I want a job that does nothing and helps no one. They cant help with defective parts because they pay people to do nothing and deflect calls for warranty work. There is some false sense that LEDS last longer than old style vacum bulbs so they make them integrated into the part. Bulbs were always designed to be replaced now just throw the entire part in the trash. Our throw out society is doomed tires that last 20K miles the engineering behind some of this stuff is mind boggling

How about they dig into the broken crap and show how to fix it

If they stop using interior grade LEDS that would help

There is easily tens of thousands of these race track lights in a land fill if every customer replaced the race track light there would be a pile of them 720,000 + or - of these giant pieces of plastic

Hi Richard @sensei451 , this would typically be on out-of-pocket expense to you. However the dealer is in the best position to assist with any possible repair cost assistance.

@cambo Thank you for these details. We take your feedback seriously and will pass it along to the appropriate team. Please let us know if you are currently experiencing vehicle concerns and are working with a dealership for repairs, and we can connect you with a case manager to provide extra support.

@sensei451 welcome to the My DRL Is Out and Dodge Will Do Jack To Help club.

I also have a '21 TNG which I love and my driver side DRL went out about 3 months ago. I even have a Mopar MaxCare Warranty and so far they are telling me its not covered. I haven't decided that conversation is over yet though.

yes, you have to replace the entire light assembly to fix the DRL. and you have to remove the front bumper and various panels and plastic pins to replace the headlight assembly.

Thanks @cambo for the useful writeup on the rear "race track". Interior-grade leds, haha :)

@DDC: Good luck.. I never bothered with any extended warranty, hope it works out for you.

Its not right when something as simple as the DRL being out requires a whole assembly replacement.

I dont care how good the light assembly may or may not look, its not exactly automotive progress to ask the consumer to pay $1400 + labor for a silly DRL repair.

@DodgeCares, sorry you weren't able to help. Not holding my breath on any dealer assistance; they didnt even want to honor the uconnect issue they had previously "fixed" while under warranty.

@valentinjr thank you, but I'm not sure that would help either. bulbs and lenses are 100% not covered. there is not much else critical to a light housing to make it function.

I'm researching the idea that the DRL is actually two separate LEDs or LED strips and therefore its just not feasible that BOTH the top and bottom strip failed at exactly the same time and there there is an electronic chip or component to blame.

True but they know these are led projector headlights, so no bulb involved. I understand the DRL are also led based strips but not considered a safety issue so wouldn't cause immediate attention.

I would find it hard to believe if a projector fails which would be a safety issue , they wouldn't go about and replace the whole assembly. Especially with you being under warranty.

Could you take the wire and run it to the fog light?

Could it have something to do with the blinker I know that when you put the blinker on it turns of DRL on the side that blinks. I guess its for more attention that your turning could be more involved then just the LED strip going out. Maybe the blinker circuit is blowing them out
