As Some of you may or may not know the Newark Delaware Dodge Durango Plant will most likely be closing at the end of 2008. We've been lucky to be one of the very few car clubs to be invited year after year.

Ok Here's the 2008 Plant tour sign ups and info page!
The 2008 Durango Plant tour will be on October 3rd in Newark, Delaware.
The tour will be on Friday the 3rd of October starting at 9-930 AM.
We'll start our annual event as usual with most arriving on Thursday afternoon. This is usually followed by a kickoff dinner (dining information to follow) and is usually attended by a few Plant Staff as well. Dinner is usually followed up by a Durango Schmooze where we can all talk D and put faces to names that we've never met in person.
Friday morning we'll line up at the hotel for a convoy to the Newark Plant.
The tour usually runs from about 9:30am - 12:30pm which includes a great Luncheon put on for us by Plant Staff.

The hotel info is as follows and please make reservations as soon as you know you'll be attending. Also add your name to the list below and please copy and paste to keep the form flowing.

The hotel is the SLEEP INN and you make your reservations by calling 302-453-1700 and using the code DURANGO OWNERS CLUB. I'll update post with cost per room as soon as I get the information.

As with every year's plant tours there'll be a $20 fee for members and a $30 fee for non members (which includes a 1 year membership in the DOC.) Monies can be sent to the DOC Paypal Address DOCMembership07(durangoclub.com.

We're also looking into some other things to do to combine with the tour.

They're looking for us to have around 50 people max but said we can be a bit over if necessary

BE A PART OF THIS GREAT AND MOST LIKELY DOC HISTORICAL EVENT!!

PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THE LIST WHEN ADDING YOUR NAME AND # OF ATTENDEES

ATTENDEES ARE AS FOLLOWS: (please list name, # of attendees in your group, dinner attendance, whether you sent $$ in and if you made reservations.)
1. Steve Smits, 1 person, Dinner Thurs & Fri,

LOOKING FORWARD TO MEETING ALL OF YOU!

The plant tour is really "everything Durango"?

Durangos (and some other vehicles ;) ), from mild to wild?
People you've talked to here -- in person. Nothing quite like putting faces to names?
Yakking about everything from your kids to superchargers?
Seeing how a modern vehicle is made? and sometimes a sneak peek at something coming down the pike?

and?

The people at the plant.
The best part.
Wonderful folks, who really enjoy having us there, really do everything they can to make us feel welcome, share literally every bit of information they can, and listen to what we say?

Worth the trip?

WOO HOO WE HAVE A DATE!!

The tour will be Friday October 3rd 2008 at the Newark Assembly Plant.
I've set up a block of 15 rooms at the Sleep Inn (we can add more if needed) for Thurs night October 2 and Friday October 3rd. The rate is the same as last year at $69/night.

Sleep Inn (DE015)

Phone: 302-453-1700 (tell them you're with the Durango Owners Club)

Joann indicated the tour starts at 9-9:15 am Friday and I'll work on dinner arrangements for Thurs and Fri evening as I have time to.

Please start the list below again and indicate whether you'll arrive on Thurs evening or Fri morning (if Fri morning, you need to be there by 8 am to line up for tour.)

Note: please copy and paste from the previous list so it remains accurate.

Are we having other things to do too? Mopar parts tour again? Bridge Drive-Around again? I hope so!

Dinner will be Matilda's for Thursday night like usual? I also want to do the Bar-Crawl on Friday night at the University if there are a few takers.

Are current non members welcome to this event too?

My girlfriend and I, both Durango owners and nuts (she had a 4.7 SLT taken from her, and now an 01 R/T and mine also an 01 R/T), have always wanted to go on this tour but never could make it. But seeing as this may be the last tour to this great plant we'd like to attend.

Also if we're welcome how much would this weekend cost on average, as we both are college graduates and on tight budgets :wall:?

OK, I can't do a copy/paste so please add Pete and Sue Cartier to the list for both Thursday and Friday dinner. Thanks!

Bring a Christmas toy, yes? Indy, I mailed you a $20 check to the DOC PO address.

Well?
  • 1) Everyone is invited to the Tour? Durango Owners Club (DOC) member or not. The more the merrier :!:

    2) $20 for DOC Paying Members, $30 for all others and that'll include a 1 year DOC membership.

    3) Please bring an unwrapped toy for the annual "Toys for Tots" toy drive along with you to the Tour. We'll collect the toys at the front door of the Plant right after the Parade to the entrance.

    4) Any extra funds that you care to donate, as well as funds collected for the Tour, will all go into a check to be presented to the UAW Local for the Toy Drive. Last year we provided a $1000 check for the Toy Drive. With the generosity of Mike Weed and Pete Cartier, I believe we have a $500 head start on that for this year. I look forward to being able to write the kids ANOTHER $1000 check! Please help will you :?:

    5) Every Durango ever assembled was done so at this plant. The history of the Newark Assembly Plant is vast, starting as a Military Tank Assembly Facility and has seen many Chrysler models come through there over the Decades. Even Architect historians have found value in touring the place for it's age and uniqueness in the auto history. All that and the plant is likely to be shutttered and closed in a few short months. Don't miss what could be your last chance to Tour the facility and see how man, machine and Robot actually assemble modern day vehicles, from HEMIs to headliners.

    6) 3) "DOCMembership07 at durangoclub.com" is the email address to use if sending in funds via PayPal. Durango Owners Club, PO Box 561, Brownsburg, IN 46112 if sending funds for the Tour or the kids via regular postal mail.
C'ya all there! Happy travels to all!

We're also looking into another sub tour as I found that the Mopar Parts depot is still in working order and they're attempting to make those arrangements at this time for us. This will provide us with a littel something extra to do.
