One of them gives a fluctuating reading, and the other a straight line as normal. It had me stumped first time. I checked the working side to figure it out. I imagine you can see the live data. Even the phone app I showed you allows you to check a number of live data readings, including O2 sensors.

What is key dance?
Start with the ignition key at Off. Then, rotate it quickly between run and back to off 3 x in 5 sec or less. You'll end up in Run, engine off. Observe the odometer display for any stored P0 codes. If there are none, you'll see pdone.

Don
I tried the key dance but the odometer did not change.

Mine is prone to stall at short stops. I suspect that it has a defective torque converter. I have just adapted my driving habit to come to a rolling stop, which will kick it out of gear when it sticks. I still think you need to invest in a good scanner. Not only will it help solve this issue, but it will pay for itself on your other vehicles.
Can you recommend a good scanner? Will it tell me more info. to pinpoint the problem?

If you didn't see pdone then you did the keydance wrong.

Does my earlier statement in "" below sound right? Would it be worth it to replace the 4 coil packs rather than pay a few 100 for diagnostics?
"I talked to a shop and they said with the 5.7 hemi a similar problem has happened with a bad coil or low fuel pressure. If I but a good scanned will it show me this type of information or do you need a real good one like the shop has for 10k? "

The problem with replacing parts is that you are mostly guessing at it. I would bring it to a shop and let them diagnose it. If they misdiagnose and swap parts that aren't needed, its on them since they didn't fix the problem.

Okay I broke down and brought the vehicle to a mechanic. He said it needed 2 x O2 sensors. I picked it up yesterday and $850 later and 3 x 02 Sensors it seems okay. See attached Invoice with diagnostics. I drove 40 km today and all seemed okay. After playing cards, turned the key to the on position and the CE light flashed and beeped. Drove about 5km and CE light came on solid. Got back home and read the code P0420 low catalyst system efficiency. Now what? Time replace vehicle?,2022 Dodge Durango R-T Plus 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine $49,000 cdn, 25,600km

Did you put factory sensors in it? If not that could be the problem. We always recommend factory sensors on Durangos.

Any other advice on the new code? I think the shop used NGK sensors. On a side note, looked at a 2022 D 5.7 with 25k km. Any issues to be aware of? I was a little surprised there are vents/scoops on either side of the hood when rain and snow would seem to get in and where is the battery? Should I create a different post for this?

The newer hood is a non-issue and the battery is under the passenger front seat. The biggest issue with the refresh is the 10.1" FUConnect that can give you dumb errors. Those are usually fixed with tightening cables behind the radio or replacing the antenna cable and/or shark fin. This refresh is really de-contented and the packages were changed to get maximum profit from buyers.

The shop just read codes and didn't test the efficiency of the catalyst.

Did you tell them to diagnose it or just to swap the parts? A lot of shops will swap parts for you, but won't warranty it if they do not diagnose it themselves or if you supply the parts.

Wow, that's a chunk for 3 02 sensors! I hope they were NGK which is what I think Dodge uses for their oem.
Since it's not misfiring, as in CE light not flashing, hopefully you can get back where it needs to be.

I know you are in Canada which means things cost a bit more than down here in the US. I imagine those sensors might have been a little resistant to removal after all the years/miles.
I see 4 hours of labor, and a charge of $400 for that, so $100 an hour.

It's more than I'd want to pay, but sometimes it is what it is I suppose.

I paid $90 here too for some as came in a Mopar packet. But they are the only ones I could get to work. Knock-offs from China and secondhand from the wreckers were unsuccessful, even after I cleaned the junk yard ones. Trust me, I tried everything I could before I paid $90. But sometimes you have to.

Fel-Pro rear main seal failed immediately as well. I had to pull the transmission out again just to put one in from a Mopar packet.

Thanks for the 411. Yeah labor rates around here are $100. I don't have a hoist and didn't feel like crawling around on the ground with the D in my face and a torch. Just didn't think it would take as long with a hoist not to mention they said 2 x o2 sensors not 3. Does the new CE code mean the O2 sensors are defective? Cerd mentioned something about if they tested the efficiency of the catalyst? I'm not sure what exactly that is and what would the result mean? I went to start the D yestday and there was nothing, checked under the hook and the nagative battery post was finger tight. I wonder if the shop disconnected it. Went to look at a 2022 Saturday. They are driving it here today to see how it pulls and fits with my boat. 2022 5.7 25,600km $49,000. I'm assuming that is more expensive than in the US?
