I have a 2000 durango with the 4.7
I am wondering if I could swap it into my 2009 ram 1500 with a knocking 4.7
Is it possible what would I have to change? Any input would be helpful.
Also is the Durango have equal or close to equal towing abilities

I believe you'll have to swap out the tone ring...2000 is 16 tooth and later models...2002 and on went to 32 tooth, so it won't play nice with your ECU. That will require you do disassemble both engines to swap them and they will need to be out of the vehicle.
2000 Durango w/tow package and 3.92 gears rated to tow around 6K...the limiting factor was the brakes..single piston up front/drum out back.

Is the 4.7 from your Ram the newer Corsair version with 16 plugs? If so, you are taking quite a step down in power.

The '00-07 4.7L is rated at 230 hp, while the '08-'09 version was 300 hp.

Thank you for the info. Unfortunately the 09 4.7 blew the water pump at 75-80 mph. It needs a complete rebuild or replacement. Looks like the Durango will be my new hauler.
