DD family, as I promised you, I would update the DD family on the current mileage after our return from Panama City Beach.
We just pulled into the driveway. She purred all the way down to Panama City Beach and purred all the way back. She pulls steep hills in North Alabama, off I-22 with a tiny bit of increased rpm. I mean we were loaded down with 2 adults, and 5 grands between 8, and 15. She still gets about the same gas mileage as when she was new. She gets around 475- to just over 500 miles per tank. The oil level is the same since the last oil change, and currently it shows the oil is @ 9% life left. Before the trip, I pre-tripped her with a new set of oem plugs, and a new set of oem ignition coils. It was hot in Florida, in the 90ties, and we might have a small freon leak, I could feel, and smell that certain scent when the ac is not cooling like it should. Back home in OKC, and the air tonight is 68 degrees, and cool front looming. Home is still standing from storms. Now she needs another set of Akebono brakes all around, and a new set of Bridgestone Aleza Plus.

Awesome...

I'm at 190k + the hemi sounds great. The trick is full synthetic, proper weight oil + filter changes every 3000 miles.

Also change gear oil in the diff/diffs and trans fluid in the ZF as needeFull synthetic

Around our 10th oil change, we had the oil changed with Mobile 1 Advance Full Synthetic. We were on vacation, and the oil life was @ 3%. So, I knew I couldn't make it back to OKC to my dealer. All the other oil changes have been what our dealer uses and are all we have ever used in the Citadel.

I use Mobile 1 full synthetic as well. Costs more but if you're doing your own oil changes its about the same as having other people do it for you.

Another trick that makes things much easier is to replace the oill plug with a Funoto valve.

Finally do this every 3rd oil change.

I do use Mobile 1 full Synthetic, (the one with 20,000 miles on the jug) and a Mobile 1 canister filter on all the other vehicles in the family. Yes, it gets quite expensive, but worth it. I stay away from Fram, or any other filter which cannot last 6000 miles without deteriorating.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. Love hearing about high mileage Durangos. My 2014 SXT+ has 185K miles with no engine issues, but I'm not nearly as rigorous on the oil changes. Oil & filter changed every 6K miles, only recently switched to synthetic around 150K miles. Plugs changed once at 100K miles.

7k miles is the norm for Advance full synthetic. It has gotten expensive for sure. I'm not sure what Walmart uses, but their synthetic oil change is priced almost perfectly for those who don't value their vehicle. I'm good, not Walmart for me, but for those who have no choice. So, I looked over the figures. For 59.99 at Walmart, it's almost hard to buy any of the top 5 advance full synthetic oil brands, and a synthetic filter. Add in their time to do the change, jacking up their vehicle, and get messy. Maybe, not messy for those who is all setup with a shop, or creeper, or Hoa baloney, ect...

Then there is the dropping off the old oil. It's not a bad deal to change your own oil in older vehicles, but when you think of the competitive price of Walmart's full synthetic oil change, it's worth noticing, and passing it along to church members.

Not sure how I missed the title of this thread for my first post, but maybe I did. If it does not burn gas, and it's not a diesel, I guess it does not run. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

@Methodites :
Walmart can be very hit or miss on the quality of workmanship. I've heard too many stories about wrong oil, no oil, oil pan bolt loose or left out, wrong oil filter etc.
I have them do flat repairs and rotations, but that's about it.

Good one Don, spot on 😂. In earlier times, Walmart was a drag. Walmart has now made themselves competitive for sure due to the simple complaints. They have been chasing away customers, and what better way to attract them back ;). Walmart will change the stakes no matter what, Walmart say we got a 50-50 shot, we will never be counted out...😆

The only downside with places like Walmart or any discount oil change place is that the mechanics get tempted screw oil plugs back on with an impact to save time.

Do this once or twice and it kills the threads in the pan. Once the threads are messed up you're either replacing the pan or taping to a larger size drain plug. (Assuming the current drain plug comes off and isn't spinning in the hole.)

I went to the dealer last Saturday (a week ago) to take the Citadel in for her routine oil change. I got there around 10 am, was told they were 3-4 hours wait. So, I scheduled for the next weekend, which was this past weekend. I got there @ 9:30am, and waited for my 10am appt. I was told it was going to be a 2-hour wait. So, I decided to just kill some time, and kick a tire or two. Nope, didn't buy anything, but looked all over the new Hornet".

2 hours, twenty minutes later they called me. I check out, and begin to turn out of the dealership, and darn-it if she's in first gear. My first thought, whattha the pedals are supposed to be disabled. I coast to the edge of street, and sure enough, the pedals are no longer disabled. The wife hates that feature like dropped ice cream from a cone. Yesterday I got the Service GM survey, and left a comment, as to why the shifters were on. For sure he called and apologized (he's called before), and said he will investigate it. :(
