Quick question, I just got my new 2023 Durango RT, I now have 1200 miles on it with one tow after 700 miles, I noticed that occasionally I will see a puff of smoke from the exhaust when first starting it up, this does not happen all the time bur should this be a concern or is it something that happens during break in period.
sorry one more question, I traded in a 2017 Citadel 5.7 I've had since new, when towing I would put High Test in the tank, should I do the the same with the new DD or keep it at regular.

Can you determine the color of the smoke? White smoke might be water/coolant. Black smoke might be fuel.

If you have a head gasket leak, coolant might be getting into the cylinders. When you start the engine, the coolant flashes to steam and comes out the tailpipe. Look at your coolant overflow tank. Is the level low? Do you see bubbles in the coolant when the engine is running and warmed up?

If you have bad valve stem seals, oil will run down the valve stem when the engine is off. When you start the engine, that oil gets burned and comes out the tailpipe.

If the engine computer excessively enrichens the mixture on start-up, some that excess fuel will come out of the tailpipe as black smoke. Note, I think my 2023 also runs excessively rich on start-up. I haven't noticed any smoke, just a strong odor of un-burnt fuel.

As for fuel, your manual recommends that you use 89 octane gasoline "for optimum performance and fuel economy".
 
If you start a Hemi and then shut it down quickly (such as start it, back it up a few feet then turn it off) you will see a puff of white/grey smoke next time you start it.
That is due to a very high internal vacuum that is created in that instance and it will suck some extra PCV vapors and fill the cylinders when shutting down.
next time you start it, that condensed vapor burns giving that white/gray smoke. I can duplicate it without issue on every Hemi I have owned (My 3.6L in my jeep does not do it) and none of them burnt oil. In fact my SRT10 would do it as well and that as a V10.

it's a white grey color, slight amount and only does it once in a while, thanks

I bet it's nothing to worry about especially if you are not burning oil. I love the HEMI. With it's torque it is a much more refined (can that be) human hauler then the 3.6. Not taking away from the 3.6 it is an awesome engine as well and is my choice engine for Jeep Grand Cherokee 5 passenger.

Thanks, I love the hemi also, I bought a 2017 Citadel 5.7, and just traded it in for the 2023 Rt Hemi, they pull my all aluminum trailer (shown in my Pic) with a all steel 35 Ford hot rod inside and I have no issues at all, I do like the shift lever on my RT better than the round shift knob that I had on my 2017 Citadel. My 2012 did the same thing. So does the 2021.
